NEW THREAD - 143 Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa - Tips and Other information

Hi Orphan and Myth

In my case it definitely did not work that way. Our PC was done 05 August 2014 and Medicals were done end of January 2015. You must remember that our CO took 28 days from submitting PC and AOS to asking for second VAC where normally it only takes a day or two. After posting the second VAC cheque on 23 June, our visa was only granted on 01 July 2015. Why it took so long we don't know, but through the Grace of God everything worked out fine. It is a bit stressful to try and arrange everything in 4 months, but I believe it will be done.

Hi All,

Just a random update on subclass 143 current processing status. .... waiting for ours to come yet - MARCH 2014

OFFSHORE APPLICANTS (subclass 143/173)

Once your application is allocated to a case officer you or your authorised contact will be contacted and asked to provide more documents including police certificates and health clearances to complete your application. Please do not send documents until you are requested to do so.

For those who were originally requested to undertake medical examinations 12 months after lodgement date, please consider waiting an extra 2 - 3 months to undertake them due to the current processing time being 18 - 22 months.

We are currently assessing for finalization applications lodged on 03 September 2013.

Be assured we are working very hard and do appreciate your patience.

Hi Myth. It is very good news that August 2013 has finally been processed. Looks like it was a hectic one. So you are sitting on about 16 months now. That looks good. ....... at the most another 6 months to go! Nice. We are a whole year behind you... feels like a lifetime. Trying not to think about it too much and to stay positive. Good luck and thanks for the update.

Hi All

Can someone that is already in Aus please give us advice on whether to Emigrate Financially or not? We wondering about the SARS story as Leon is receiving a monthly company pension, so we have to still fill in a tax return. Is there someone that still does tax returns and can they perhaps recommend somebody in SA that does not charge the earth to do this.

All help would be appreciated.

This is a bit off topic (143 visa) - but FX Capital charges approx R7750 to arrange financial emigration for you. Chat to Tanya - she has all of the details:

Hi Elna57,

Your welcome and Yes indeed, I was very glad to see September on the screen. August took a long time and had slowed the process, especially last couple of days.

Seeing all the scenario we are expecting our CO somewhere near 21st month (as Orphan had mentioned in one of the previous posts when I asked him). And yes In my opinion this waiting part really is bit hard to handle in terms of all the things going on in the mind and trying to maintain the patience towards reuniting with your family.

Best of luck to you too :) . With crossed fingers as we all are on the same boat, hope every thing goes smooth for everyone.

Hi RonelP. If you are an E-filer, why not just do your tax return that way? If you are not, why don't you just register and do your taxes yourself? I am not an expert but E-filing should be simple and straight forward if your pension is your only source of income. I, too, would like others' opinions about this topic, because we will be in the same boat some day and to emigrate financially just seems so much more of an unnecessary 'schlepp' with the exchange control being so lenient these days.

HI All

We need to book our flights but are not sure about travel insurance. Has anybody taken out travel insurance when they left and with whom did you do it. We planning to cancel our credit cards before we leave, so that is not an option. One more thing, is IOM the only company that does cheaper airfares for emigrants?

Looking forward to hear from someone soon.

We decided to fly out on 02 September 2015 and IOM is not really that much cheaper than SAA itself. Any knows of another company that does this? Looking forward to hear from someone soon.

If you have PR you are covered from the second you land in Australia, so the medical cover would be a little futile. All you do is pop into your local Medicare Office and register and then you are covered. This can be done on the first day. If you paid for your flights on credit cards, you may have baggage cover.

IOM does offer 40kgs plus 7kgs carry on. Although some of the other airlines may match that. Also why you flying SAA? Is it preference? Anyway all flights to RSA are code-shares. On the Perth route, SAA shares the flight with Air New Zealand. doesnt matter who you book thru you be on the same plane. But the price differs. So shop around.

Hi RonelP. Is Qantas not cheaper? They have always been cheaper when we booked our tickets. I am so happy for you! Enjoy!

Does anybody know if it is possible to bring parents over in the following way:

One parent applies for Contributory Parent Visa, once granted second parent applies for Spouse Visa.

Or am I missing something in the detail? Because I'm sure there has to be something that doesn't allow this.

I'm just curious about this. Our parents won't meet balance of family test.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Myth.

As Myth posted on 20 July 2015, assessments were then done of applications 22.5 months before (3 Sept 2013).

It seems now they are processing applications done 20 months ago. (8 Oct 2013 to 7 Aug 2015)

Hopefully that will keep speeding up, reducing time in the waiting room.

Oh wow, they are moving really fast now. I thought August 2013 will be processed forever. Lets hope the next "hiccup" month won't take that long. Wonder what month the next increase in VACs was? July 2014? Does anybody know?

@Red Panda

Please read Booklet 1: Partner Migration - Page 16.

Under normal circumstances, it seems possible for one parent holding a Permanent 143 Contributory Parent Visa to sponsor another at a later stage, subject to a 5 year delay from the 143 visa grant date.

However, this rule may not apply where there is an issue with the Balance of Family Test. I suggest you discuss this with a migration agent.

Thanks Myth, great news that the process is speeding up somewhat. I still have a very looong wait in the "waiting room".

After chasing my agents, I finally received my Letter of Acknowledgement plus Receipt. Both were issued (on 3 July 2015) 9 days after submitting the 1st VA on 24 June 2015 : the agents were sitting on it in their Sydney offices all that time !! :angry2: Just as well that I did chase them up, but at least it's official now, reference number and all. A little peace of mind goes a long way :ilikeit:

did any of you came across something like that? Like to have a head start if that is the case mine done only in married name.

Hi Lindasmit,

Baie sterkte!

[basically, yes, for married women it has to list both their married and maiden names.]

Hehehehe...)
