Hi,

Our visa was approved on the 3 april 2008 - great news, but be careful of a few things - VFS is a South African forewarding services to AU high commission - expect that service ... we handed our passports in for evidencing on the 3rd and tracked their fantastic site, and no movement after 5 days, so we called the high commision yesterday(like a Discovery helpline...)and they had only recieved the passports yesterday - the site indicated the holdup was at the commission, but it was delayed at vfs.... The commission called late yesterday to say they were ready for collection, but the VFS site is still not updated....

Don't make your final arrangements too soon after getting your visa as I have had to kiss ass to keep my flights booke, loading my furniture on a ship etc... because the visa is not done yet...My fault partly as I decided to preplan a lot in the last few months and leave within 2 weeks of recieving my visa grant.

We are leaving next Tuesday, container shipping off today, accommodation, cars(both sides)etc.. all done...

Thanks for the support you guys, hope yours gets through soon, will catch up late next week from the Promised land.......

Regards Dave and Nicki..

Here is the 8 April 2008 ASPC update - I see a part of it was published under another topic, but here is all the detail:

RECEIPTING AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF APPLICATIONS

The ASPC is currently receipting new applications within service standards.

Once an application has been receipted it undergoes validity checking and an acknowledgement letter with client information and a receipt will be sent. If an application is determined to be invalid documents will be returned and a refund of the visa application charge arranged.

As of 8 April 2008 the ASPC Admin Section is processing applications as

follows:

Onshore Applications: receipting and acknowledging applications received on

7 April 2008.

Offshore Applications received prior to 1 September 2007:

All applications with a valid payment have now been receipted. The ASPC is acknowledging offshore applications received on 31 August 2007.

Please note that any delay in acknowledging an application does not affect the date on which a valid application is recorded as having been received and does not delay processing of the application.

Once an application has been acknowledged it will be allocated to a case officer for further assessment as soon as possible, however, the ASPC receives a large number of applications and you will not be contacted immediately.

The paper-lodged applications being up until the 19th September only just doesn't seem right!

Our application was receipted mid September, and never mind having our case-officer, we have our visa!

Something just doesn't seem right!

You'll note that applications receipted from 1 September 2007 are grouped separately from those receipted before 1 September. Remember the rules changed on 1 September. I'm guessing one group of people are working on the backlog of visas to be assessed under the old rules while another is working on visas being processed under the new rules. Lucky you!

Week after week after week after week !! Think they've forgotten about us and moved on !! :)

I had a quick chat with the guy taking down the IELTS oral exams yesterday.

He said they doing on average 700 applications per week in South Africa. This includes Botswana and Namibia. And way over 90% is all for emigration.

They have increased their volumes to cope with the demand, but the problem now lies with the DIAC and seems like from what he heard there is now an 8 month delay due to increased volumes.

Thought I'd relay the rumor.
