One thing we have to bare in mind is that the paper based applications moved 41 weeks between the Dates 5 and 12th February. According to the previous average movements per day the aspc is more than double the number of days allocated per calender date. If they can only process the same amount of applications as before it will mean waiting up to 10 months for a case officer is have the average settle back to normal. This will also depend on the increase in volumes, as we are all aware of the numbers jumping ship.

Over the next few months I think we could see very little movement. Sorry to have to say this. We applied 23 November last year and according to may calculation will get a case officer around the end of July. Obviously I'm hoping that The next movement is a big jump.

Regards

Hi guys

I am really struggling to keep up with everything and do all of the forum stuff and try and keep a day job en keep hubby happy.

Anybody willing to volenteer to take over the timeline spreadsheet for us? I need someone who is willing to update the timesheet in Excel and then post it on the web. So I need someone with Excel skills and time on their hands to keep it updated.

Please send me an email dedrei (at) saaustralia dot org and I will look and see who I can appoint to take it over from me.

Thanks

Cheers

Dedre

On the other hand... Here is a recent news article from Radio Australia (www.radioaustralia.net.au/news/stories/200805/s2236088.htm?tab=australia):

Australia to speed processing of migrant visas

Updated May 6, 2008 02:15:58

Australia's federal government says it will set up new centres, and provide more resources, to the immigration department to speed up processing of 457, or skilled migrant, visas.

Our reporter Naomi Woodley reports the Federal Government is accepting most of the recommendations from a review of the 457 visa system.

The immigration department will put extra resources into clearing the current backlog of applications by the end of June.

The government says specialised centres will also be set up in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to process visas from July, and teams will concentrate on regions, industries or projects to address particular shortages.

Employers classified as "low-risk" will be able to have their applications fast-tracked under an accreditation system.

The Federal Opposition is supporting the recommendations, but says many had previously been identified and announced by the Howard government.

Oops - Just realised that "speed up processing of 457, or skilled migrant, visas" means temporary skilled visas, not General skilled visas. Still, good news for those people applying for 457's. - Daniel

Its quite confusing how things are done, just when you think you can see a pattern and can predict a timeframe of when things will happen, they change. You read these headlines and get excited - there have been quite a few about this, and even in our Acknowledgement letter it stated that 'priority' is given to applications with MODL skills (which ours is) and yet still there are long delays - we are almost 11 months into the game ...

Hi There everyone

Is there any update on the processing-dates of the visa?

I am not sure how and who updates it, but I am very keen to see if there were any progress?

Hi,

The email address is: aspc.processing@immi.gov.au - just send a blank email.

They don't always update at the end of their Tuesday though.

Cheers,

Dit voel of hulle ons applikasie in die asblik gegooi het. Ek weet nie hoe die "PAPERBASED" mense dit hou nie. As ENIGE iemand of familie my nou weer vra; het julle al julle Visa, dan ?????//???/?????/?//?????/????.

Ek gaan hou sommer vakansie by my nig in Griekeland.

WHAT IS GOING ON????? :ilikeit: :ilikeit:

Yesterday, the reply from ASPC said 'Paper Based Applications for 175' had moved to 20 October 2007. I was jumping for joy in the office. My husband and I packed up and ran to the police station to get our police clearance done.

This morning my husband said I should just check it again - as it was a major jump!! The reply I get now says it is 19 September 2007.

Last week it was 20th September. So now we are actually losing ground and I am losing my mind!!!!

I really hope that the response from ASPC is wrong!!!

How can it go backwards??

Hi Gina

I know what you mean! The same thing happened to me... We were so relieved yesterday as it's been such a long wait, and then I've checked again this morning and couldn't believe it!!! I don't even want to tell my hubby about it, he'll be sooo disappointed...

It just seems to be taking forever, we're going nuts waiting

Hi All

Sent in a query and got this response - perhaps the cloud has a silver lining?

"Because of the changes that are about to take place in our processing systems which include significant upgrading of our computer system we are unable to predict future processing times.

I expect that as the new systems are bedded down and we clear the backlog of general skilled applications made under the old rules we will be able to better indicate processing times for the new visa sub classes."
