ACS assessments

Thanks PieterK and Stranded... :ilikeit: I will definitely come screaming into this thread once the letter arrives! (unless it's a negative assessment which will cause me to come wailing in here) The tracking number isn't activated yet so I am guessing they haven't posted it off just yet...

OMGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH after checking the Auspost track and trace, with no result "item not found", I thought I'd try my luck and phone the SAPO call centre on the offchance that it has already arrived in SA.

After trying twice and holding for an insane length of time, listening to Sarah Brightman's "Deliver Me" (oh the irony!!) LOOPED indefinitely ( :ilikeit: ), I tried a 3rd time, and the guy there said "it's already left Jhb, it should be in Cape Town, let me check.................... ah yes, it's at Capemail, you should get it in the next few days".

I TELL YOU NEARLY SHRIEKED... I was so excited I nearly shrieked... but contained myself by messaging hubby on MSN with the news.

Now we just have to get that precious piece of paper and hopefully it'll be a positive assessment with a CSL code on it!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

*PS - sorry if I'm breaking some online rule about not posting after a previous post by yourself... but no one else is here? and I HAVE to tell SOMEONE... :(:ph34r:

No worries, we forgive you! :P

Not long now, I'm sure it'll be good news.

I fetched the letter today... it seems NOT to be good news for us.

The ASCO code is 2231-79, with nothing after it, no brackets, no *, nothing.

On the application form (online application) hubby put:

ASCO code: 2231-79

MODL Description: Computing Professional - specialising in C++/C#/C

Is this incorrect? Is it correct but they made a mistake? How do we go about correcting the mistake if it is a mistake...

basically HELP!!!! any advice/suggestions please help. After getting so excited about it, it turns out to be dud... Hubby has the skills (6+ years of it), but not the right (CSL) ASCO code. what do we do now? This isn't even a MODL ASCO code.

Well, at least it's positive, that's something at least. I recommend you lodge your 175 now, even if you don't have MODL/CSL, at least you got it in before they change the rules again, even if it would mean waiting a few years for a grant.

I'm not sure how ACS decides whether you meet the criteria for CSL or not, I work in networking, and security makes out a large part of my job, but apparently not enough for ACS to give me speicialization in network security. It might be best to contact an agent that specializes in ACS cases, they could give you the best indication as to whether you should consider an appeal or not. PTLabs on the form is very good at ACS cases.

What about appealing? The ACS site says this about appeals:

Applicants have 60 days from the date on the letter of advice, in which to submit an appeal to the Deputy Director. Appeals take approximately six weeks to complete.

Please click here for Appeal Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)

The fee is $300 (non-refundable). For method of payment options, please click here

Use this form if you:

* have received an unsuitable assessment result.

* dissatisfied with the assessment result that you receive.

* disagree with any information included within the assessment result letter that you receive.

* have additional information that was not included in the initial assessment application.

*

Have received a suitable assessment but need to have ASCO code changed due to The Sydney and Selected Areas Skilled Shortage List (SSASSL) scheme. Please refer to DIAC website for further information: http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/skilled/s...skills_list.htm

Appeal application must include:

* An appeal form

* Appeal fee.

* A copy of previous assessment result.

* Additional documentation to support your appeal (if applicable).

It seems the right thing for us to do... is it worth still phoning?

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but if you appeal with the same application, odds are you'll get the same result. (Unless, of course, you are absolutely certain you have been wrongly accessed.)

That's why I still feel that you should get in touch with Peter, (PTLabs), for a small fee he can look through your application and can advice whether you have a chance of success if you appeal or not.

Ok, I'll send him a PM to ask what's what. What sort of fee are we talking? $400? :ilikeit:

Ok last night I phoned ACS (stayed up til 1:30am lol ;) )... spoke to a lady there who was very helpful.

Basically we just need to send a more detailed employer reference letter, which outlines his skills, because the one he sent wasn't very detailed at all. I asked her about trying for a different (ie not 2231-79) code and she said it would require a whole new application.

4-6 weeks' wait for a reassessment doesn't seem so bad, and if it's a more detailed letter they want then they'll get it! Yay, I feel so relieved now knowing that it's not a trainsmash! So we're going to courier off the stuff tomorrow, and hopefully will have a NEW letter by the end of August :) Thanks for putting up with me panic :lol:

:whome: I am hoping that I will phone, and it'll just be a website glitch: We dropped off the appeal letter at Postnet on Saturday, for couriering this morning. Neither DHL's nor Postnet's tracking has record of our letter (10:30pm). I am going to phone Postnet tomorrow and ask them what's going on...

I'm... hoping that they haven't delayed our letter... B) if they have, I'm going to be just a little bit peeved :ph34r:

That is ridiculous! They should have a tracking number. Didn't they give you one on the slip when you paid for the courier? Had my fingerprints couriered visa Postnet (DHL) to USA and there was a mix up, but it got there eventually albeit a week later, grrr. Is a bit annoying when you're paying lots of money for a service which they don't deliver.

Have you phoned Postnet and have they given you an answer?

HAHAHAHA!!!

Sorry - I just had to get the manic laughter out of the way! *long post alert!*

I phoned DHL this morning, they said they had no record of the parcel. I phoned Postnet and the guy took my details and said he'd trace the parcel and call me back. 1hr went past, no call so I called them back. This time, I told the lady that I would hold, please can she check their collection book (or wherever it is they write stuff) to see when it was collected. I held on for 10mins to be told that they'd looked everywhere in their office and... they'd found our envelope in the drawer.

Yes, ladies & gentlemen, they "forgot" our envelope in the drawer when the DHL dude arrived to collect parcels yesterday afternoon. She apologised and told me that the manager would personally take the envelope TO DHL during the morning, to ensure it gets sent ASAP.

I phone DHL at about 16:30, it's finally on their system. I ask them exactly what time it was logged, the lady tells me "it was collected at 15:54". Note: collected, not DELIVERED.

I phone Postnet, speak to the manager, and apparently the lady who'd told ME that the manager would deliver it, told the MANAGER that it wasn't urgent and could wait until the DHL dude came at 4pm instead. Needless to say, I'm very pissed and hubby and I are going on the weekend to collect OUR REFUND as discussed with the manager(!)!! Sheesh!!!!! Seriously! Make a mess up and promise to rectify it, then not even do what they promised! WTF!

At least our envelope is on its way thank HEAVENS!!!

Hey all

28 June: I submitted my online skills assessment.

29 June: I couriered all my documents.

10 July: I receive a template mail from a skills assessment officer (Rachal), requesting documents to substantiate my online application.

I checked the online track & trace, but it said my parcel was still in Johannesburg.

11 July: I reply to Rachal, informing her that I sent the parcel on 29 June, but the tracking system says that it's still in Johannesburg. I tell her I will be contacting the couriers and keep her updated.

No reply from Rachal...

I phoned Speed Services and they said that it had been successfully delivered on 3 July.

14 July: I inform Rachal that the documents were delivered and request that she investigate on her side.

No reply from Rachal...

16 July: I again follow up with Rachal and request a status update.

Still no reply...

I don't want to make a nuisance of myself, but I can't understand why I'm not getting a response.

I would at least like to know that they've received my documents.

Has anybody else experienced a similar situation?

Perhaps I need to phone them...

I have until mid August for them to receive all my documentation, but I prefer not to put things off until tomorrow.

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Thanks,

Carl

Hey Carl,

Maybe she went on holiday?

I would give it until mid this week and then maybe try and follow it up with a phone call.

She could just be really busy, but it is a bit nerve wreaking.

Maybe someone else has had a similar story?

Murphy's Law...

I received a mail from Rachal this morning.

My documents have been received.

Phew!

She was probably just taking a long lunch break - and they say Capetonians are laid back...

At least everything is sorted out now and you can relax for a bit!

All the best with the assessment and let us know how it goes, am sure it'll come back positive!

Yay!! After having trouble with Postnet (we got our refund, by the way!), our letter has arrived and is now on their system, as of 17 July. It currently says: "Event type: Appeal" and "Status: To be allocated", so I think we've just restarted the whole process!

Hello All,

I just thought I'd let you all know that I specialise in ACS skills Assessments. Prior to becoming a Migration Consultant I worked in IT for over 20 years in SA (Old Mutual), UK (American Express) and Australia (Coles). I have worked in both technical and Analyst roles starting way back as a COBOL/CICS/DB2 developer and ending as a Technical Consultant with UNIX ORACLE.

Due to the above I have an in-depth understanding of the IT world and am 'in-tune' with what the ACS are looking for in an application especially when it comes to applying for a MODL occupation.

I process a lot of ACS assessments (Group A, Group B and RPL) and have built good relationships with the ACS assessors.

Feel free to send me a PM or contact me via email if you need any assistance with ACS skills assessments/appeals.

Regards
