lyall
i admit to being confused...the DIAC time lines seems so static, yet we know people are getting CO.s at dates later than quoted on the time line..so do we worry or not....I choose to worry that everything can go wrong..still worrying that I'll fail the medical...and then hopefully things will be better than my imagination.about how many people are waiting for 175/176 right now..(I cant keep track...the stress is making my mind go numb - also thought of taking up drinking but decided it might make me more confused...) duToits
There is just no logic or order to the visas anymore. We have Jan, March, June PR visa being granted in no order. I reckon some of the CO are just working through their piles of application quicker than others. Maybe they have a target for Christmas that needs to be met, who knows. I'm just happy visas are being granted and not the silence we had a few months ago. Just keep on going.

tennantrodney
Shame Tennantrodney,It really is a rough ride, immigrating is so hard, you wait for the visa, then you get it, all of a sudden you have nothing to focus on, then reality hits you and it is time to sort the house, pack the container, then that is done and you get on the aeroplane and everything is done, and you don't know what to do with yourself. You land in Australia, life is good, you look back and wonder what all the stressing was about, it becomes a distant memory.Good luck, be strong, you will get here, JillThanks a lot for that Jill - i guess you are right - i really needed that encouragement! You sound settled and content. :-) I envy that in terms of where we are now - in a rented flat feeling like a nomad! I long to be settled - i long for a boring life - I think it is underrated! How long have you guys been over there?
skywalker
It would seem that the processing times for South Africa and other high risk countries is running about five month behind the British forerunners for co appointments.where currently some July applicants are getting their co,s There also seems to be a loack of consistency in how co ,s are appointed. The flustrating part is that it makes planning extremely difficult, and although the number of visa grants has increased in the last couple of days i recall in may/jun this year where it simple groud to a halt. The concern here is that with the econmic outlook that the processing times may slow even further ,and ther seems little regard from diac for additional cost if med etc expire

Hugoboss
Hi GuysMy first post in this forum. I have been reading all the topics for months with great interest. We are also waiting for the PR visa(lodged 03 April 08) and really getting fustrated after 8 months with no correspondence except for our Police Clearance and Medical requests. We made use of an agent purely because of the administration side of the application and not want go into a paper war. I pick up on the timeline site that people without agents processing times is shorter. Can this be true and if so why? I understand that the info on the site can be wrong and you can not take this as a given, but it surely looks interesting.I am still awaiting my CO after 8 months and the agent say that I must be patient for another 2 months for the visa to be approved. The fustration of not knowing when to do what really gets to me. I am in the final stages of selling the business and my properties. I got the kids into a school in Sydney to start on 29 Jan 09, packing my stuff on the 05th of Jan 09 and trying to fly out middle of Jan. Still, no visa, so all is hanging in the balance. Am I to optimistic or is there something you can do to get clearer timelines on these things.Any comments will be appreciated. Hugo
lyall
wow Hugo boss, you really are an optimist, but it might pay off....bit stressful isn't it??but once you are here and settled you'll laught about it. I think the time difference depends on if you got a good agent, or you could have my agent, and then you might be wating for another 10 years...what do the other forumites think..? Hugoboss
LyallWhat do you consider to be a good agent after they have lodge all the paperwork requested? Is there anything they can do more than wait like me, or can they do something more. I am sure they can do something more but do not know what to push them for. The answer that I get is "we have mailed them and got a reply that it is in process" Thats it. For me this is not good enough, but the problem that I have is no knowledge of the process after it is lodged. Any suggestions?Hugo
Nix
Hugo - personally, I think the value of the agent is in the submission of the application, especially in difficult cases. Not in the processing of the application. They have no control over this, and cannot influence the time it takes. Whether you used an agent or not, the timeline for processing should be the same. My visa took 15 months - but it was a pre Sep 07 application and there was a record number of applicants received in Aug 07. So yours should not take so long, but the charter for Region 5 applicants (as South Africa is) says 12 - 18 months. So, you may be cutting it a little fine. Good Luck !!!Nix
Hugoboss
NixI also think that I am cutting it fine. I had a long talk to all the people involved in the selling of the business, schools etc and made the decision rather to purspone the move until the second quater of next year. This way I have enough time to finisheevething here properly. I do not want to sit on that side and last arrangments on this side is not finished. I discussed this with the wife and kids and we all agree on this. Hopefully by that time will I have the visa. Thanks for the advise. Hugo
Nix
Wise decision !!!! I am sure you will have the visa by Q2.....and you will move with a more settled mindset, and it really will make no difference in the long run whether you left in January or April / May...... Well done !

zorba
Hi Hugoboss, We used an agent (he does regular work for our sponsor Company) and were very happy with the outcome. Our 457 visa was granted in 2 days. Admittedly, we frontloaded everything which made it easy. The mistake a lot of people make is to abdicate ALL responsibility for the entire application to the agent. It is up to the individual to "drive" the whole process - after all it is YOUR future that hangs in the balance. They have so many clients and you are just a drop in the ocean to them, but to you this application is your ENTIRE ocean! It is up to you to make sure your file receives top priority. Yes, they are being paid to handle it, but we all know that the squeakiest hinge gets the most oil...Even after lodging a lot of agents don't offer regular feedback as they're too busy with the next lot of "recruits". It is up to you to motivate them to check on your application and provide regular feedback. Remember to stop just short of a restraining order !! (Please note, I am generalising here, please don't send the mob after me )We just recently handed in all our doc's for our PR application, and decided to use the same agent as he is familiar with our case. (Unfortunately the Company is not paying this time around and we had to foot the bill ) After 2 weeks I discovered that our file was lying in a "pending" tray because they needed additional info on something, and our consultant was away. If I had not made that call, the file would probably still be sitting there. Squeakiest hinge...!But at the end of the day it paid off and we were officially lodged on Thursday . The point I am trying to make is that no matter how good the agent is, they can still "drop the ball", even if it's only in our eyes. In reality that small delay is nothing in the greater scheme of things, not even a blip on the radar, but it is immensely important to me and my circumstances (having to cough up school fees which we can't actually afford). Hugoboss, best of luck with your plans, and I really hope everything works out for you - you WILL get here, and it will be SO worth the wait! Have agreat Christmas with your family!zorba
