GTrotter
Reading through the forums it seems most South Africans going aus go as married couples families. This is quite different to the crowd in in the UK. I'm quite interested to find out if anybody went over single and their experiences. PROzzie
GTrotter,Visa costs is the same for a family as for a single as you apply as a main applicant with or without dependants. (Medicals and PC, IELTS excluded, payable for every person over 18)Sorry but the only savings would be your flights if you pay yourself and maybe your choice of temp accommodation.Bike I am sure it would be a verrrry long flight should you choose not to sleep on the plane. (sorry I could not resist) Edited June 4, 2008 by PROzzie
Duane W
I am semi single which means my GF is in RSA so I still have to be a good boy as she doesnt agree with the saying its not cheating if its a different continent but from what I hear at work female company is fairly easy to come by in Ozz plus prostitution is legalised if you are that way inclined. For the ladies male company is even easier
Leigh MC
For all those single guys out there... I have LOADS of single (women) friends. Any of you looking for a wife/partner to take with you??? L
Dreams
Mmmm, just think of the possibilities. There might be an easier way out (of RSA)
Rissiepit
For the ladies male company is even easier ... hey that's great - perhaps I'll be able to find me an "Aussie Boer" after all!
GerhardinOz
Are we starting a singles club?Could one sleep ones way to OZ?Technically it’s possible, but from what I have seen around here you are much better of if you were to be female and Asian. kangaroo
Hi GTrotterThere are quite a number of people who are emigrating on their own - a few of my friends have done it very successfully & happily. I'll also be emigrating on my own and will be heading to marvellous Melbourne as soon as I get my 176 relative-sponsored visa.Have a look at Moving to Aus on my own! Going over on your own poses a unique set of challenges and adjustments, but rest assured that there are more single immigrants than you would have thought.DuaneW and Biker, just for the record, 'single' does not equal sleazy - not to me, at least. I think it's cool for single immigrants to support one another. I have been very lucky and blessed insofar as making fantastic friends via the forum and via friends of friends already in Oz. Best of luck with your application, GTrotter - pls shout if you need any advice!
GTrotter
Good to hear I won't the only South African flying solo. The great thing about the UK was if you felt like socialising with fellow country men and women there were more than enough opportunities to do that. In the 6 months I spent in the US I only met one South African couple @prozzieNot worried about the costs. But I think it is much cheaper going single. I don't even think I'll be taking furniture over as I sold everything this side before I went to the UK Edited June 4, 2008 by GTrotter
Springbok
I rocked up in Sydney a year ago on my own, knowing no one. I live in Sydney CBD and now know about 60 South Africans (not intentional) between the ages of 25 and 35. A mix of young married couples and singles. Life's a breeze. Who said anything about sleazy there are itches that need scratching or are you impervious to those? Some of my pals advised me to take 'pad kos' when it comes to womanThe woman here definitely dont seem to worry as much about the clothes and makeup as South African woman but there are some interesting ladies around of course that also depends on your definition of ladies. Leigh MC
Okay - so none of you are keen to take one of my single lady friends over. So....my next suggestion is this: If you're single you're probably taking a bit less over with you ito furniture and such right? so why not club together with other singles and share container costs?Michael - this one is for you!!Leigh
