Mel-B
We've been here 3 months and honestly I feel at home and happy! I'm just happy for no reason every day and I LOVE IT. Still waiting for a dream job, waiting back for feedback after a very good interview - a job my husband would LOVE, a job that makes the wait worth it. The suspense is killing me...

Mel-B
Loving a city It is important to love the city that you live in. To really love it. To care for its wellbeing, and its reputation, to explore it and enjoy its company. Loving the city I chose to make home has brought a new level of satisfaction to my life. The city I moved from was so-so. I barely tolerated it. I think the relationship between me and that city was tarnished by the ills of society… for when you don’t feel safe in your own home it is impossible to be happy. Now my trust in society is slowly being rebuilt. Our mutual love and respect for Melbourne binds us together. We all want the same things; we all enjoy the beauty of autumn leaves and sunny days. Yet sometimes I secretly wonder if I enjoy the autumn leaves more, feel the heat of the sun more, hear the chirping birds louder, and smell the sweet air as so much sweeter. I just can’t get enough, I can’t see enough, I am like a girl in love. The city that I left behind still holds in its clutches people that I love. I wonder will they too leave? Will they too choose to abandon their homes, history, and culture? It is being reborn, rediscovering yourself, finding yourself when choosing to start new. It is often said that not all those who wander are lost. I was wondering but in retrospect I was hopelessly lost. I feel like I have been lost for some time. I feel like I have lived in the dark for too long. But now I have found my home, my place. I am so grateful to be here, and wander I shall no more. Melbourne I love you. EmNew
I too felt 'home' here - almost instantly. Also feel that my trust in humanity is being restored.
Eyebrow
I miss Melbourne. It is a lovely city. We only had a little of a year in it, but it felt like home so quickly... What happened at the interview?
Mel-B
My husband did not win and came in 2nd! It was so close... and it was really a dark day for us. Back to the drawing board, he is busy interviewing for a software engineering team lead position at a hospital, and is going for interview no. 4 with them tomorrow. As far as we can tell their entire process consists of 5 interview phases. Hard work but almost there (hopefully). I don't know how other people land jobs in a few days? He has been told that he is overqualified (for mid level jobs) and not specialised enough (for senior level jobs). Its been rather frustrating. Then there was the interview where the job description could have been copied and pasted from husbands cv, but the HR lady didn't "get" my husband and blocked him. The agent told him so directly. SERIOUSLY? She asked him what is he doing for the rest of the afternoon..... and he said spending it with his wife and kids? Then she got huffy... (hard to not read something dodgy from that) so yes, frustrating is actually not the correct word BUT hopefully hubby gets sorted soon. LUCKILY his previous company needs him all the time so we have Rands coming in. That is a blessing for sure.
EmNew
Hope the current interview phase is successful! A hospital group was my lucky break in the finance side of employment, so hope it's his too!

Being new to a country, limited local exposure and with many others competing for the same job makes the odd stack up against you. However getting those many interviews and end up 2nd is really worthwhile celebrating and to be proud off. Now I know this is of no value as you need the job but think about the learning experience too. It may be worthwhile asking if he can call for detailed feedback on your application as it sounds if the employer is very thorough. That may be valuable for the next applications. Also the person who gets the job is not always the one that will deliver the best results but that is how the selection process works and the employer use the best tools availbale - which are often flawed with no gaurentees Good luck with finding a position. Mel-B
Thanks everyone Excited and happy. And sick. AGAIN. Anyone else struggling with upper respiratory tract infections? Its my 4th one in 6 months? And kids are cycling the same thing as well, 4 times each since we arrived as well? Dr seems un-bothered, says stay on anti histamines. LIKE FOREVER AND EVER?

Give it some time, you'll become more and more resistant over time.

We haven't been really sick yet (I think it's because we are a young couple with no kids, so limited exposure and strong immune systems to start with), but I've just been prescribed a week's course of antibiotics for earache? I waited a few days to see if it would clear up on its own before I see a doctor, so when I got to the doctor today she said I've waited long enough, just take antibiotics. If it clears the earache, I'll be happy. This leads me to think that not all doctors here are the same... I've heard it from many different people that they struggled to get actual 'real medicine' prescribed to them, and that the doctor would often just send them off with over-the-counter cough syrup. Maybe the locals know what's up (we got the recommendation to try this doctor from a local lady). Good luck/sterkte! (persistent snotsiekte can be so draining.)
