Werns
It really seems like they are working down the backlog at breakneck speed! They have progressed 32 days in the last 2 weeks, but the interesting fact is that according to the website they are now on 18 November, but we have already been contacted by our CO, and we submitted on 22 Dec...Never mind December. That is normal for applicants a month or so ahead of the date to have CO's, since the date they give is the date that everyone has CO's and they don't work strictly chronologically. The strange thing is that dozens of March applicants (including myself and Zim) have received CO's. From reading several forums it seems that there aren't any 2011 applicants that still need CO's, and that most of January and February is also done. So, waiting time for a 175 is now almost the same as for a 176!Hey, I'm not complaining! Just feel bad for those people 2 - 3 years back who had to wait for ages. qwerty
Try 4 years....23 June will be exactly 4 years for us.
Alida
Yup, we applied 4th of May 2010, so we're 2 years along, just entered our third year of waiting.Maybe it's because we're in Category 5. Sigh.So if you say that ALL 175'ers of 2011 has received CO's, I guess it would be appropriate to add of what category. I.e, all 2011 - 175 applicants of category 3 has received CO's. That will spare those in the waiting a bit emotional turmoil. Edited June 7, 2012 by Alida

Erik
@STPYou are category 4, DIAC is doing super job at the moment so I would guesstimate that you will have a CO in the next month or two.
STP
Thanks Erik.Ja, I'd love for it to happen quickly! How did I score cat 4 rather than 5? I'm still a bit confused.
Alida
Your Category is determined by your job and qualifications. If your profession is at this stage high in demand in Oz, you will be in Category 1 and your visa be processed very quickly. As the need for a specific procession is less, that profession is in a lower Category (2, 3 or 4). If your occupation is currently not in demand at all, or there are more job seekers than employers in your field (as is the case with us right now), you are in Category 5, with no processing timeline before ALL other category applicants are processed. Each year the DIAC has a re-evaluation of profession demands in Oz, moving the respective professions up and down the categories as needed. So with each year, any applicant can suddenly find himself falling from any category into a lower one, or jumping up.It does seem as if, with the new SkillSelect system starting 1st July, the whole category system is going to crumble. At least for the 457's and 175's. Then you will be allowed to apply for a visa only if you have an interested employer. I guess this system will only apply to skilled visas, all the other types of visas will most probably still have their own system or categories. I get the feel that this is going to create two different 'streams' of visa application systems. The Skilled Visa applicants will have to have an employer before they'll be allowed to apply for a visa, while parental, family sponsored, investor and business visas - just to name a few as explanation - will be processed on a seperate level. This is how I understand it, I sure hope I'm not spreading wrong ideas ! Gordon71
Today's new on the Group 5 175 and 176 is yet another blow, starting to feel like I have been ripped off at the moment. Getting rather angry as to how we are being treated.
satooz
I used an agent (Australian Migration Specialists) in Sandton. We started the process in May 2012 and on the 08 November I received my grant letter :-) I applied for the SS176 visa.
