100 cans of deodorant. Flip they work out expensive here especially if like my husband, you go through a can a week. Not as much of a selection here and a small can of AXE (called something else here, but is the same thing) costs around $5 can.

Not much selection for the ladies either. Although have found a favourite of mine at one of the pharmacies but at a price!!!

If I pack 50 boxes of toothpaste, will customs not charge import tax? Hubby only wants to use Aquafresh and I gather that only SA shops sell them for a fortune.

Again, I would like to have clarification on the pool table thing too. Has anyone moved theirs?

Smartie,

See Milos post below - we are OK!! :ilikeit:

I don't think the feather duvets and pillows are a problem. The feathers are part of a commercial product, therefore it has been chemically or otherwise treated to rid it of bacteria etc.

The same with the grass lampshades (I'm thinking of the ones from Mr Price Home). They will be allowed as it's has been commercially manufactured.

The problem comes with informal handmade products. The type you buy on the side of the road like the woodcarvings and the pillow your aunt who lives on a farm made for you.

Go to Mr Price Home Zone and get some nice interiors things. What you pay in Rands you will pay the same here in Dollars. Things like vases or wrought-iron candle-sticks, lampshades, etc. I also bought a new King-size duvet and 2 x new duvet covers at Mr Price to bring in the container, I am still using them 19 months later. A King size duvet inner here is around $70-$100.

Oh, and leather boots and shoes. Again that R800 for a new pair of boots won't seem so bad when you see they are $200+...

Bring your Springbok jerseys, even if it's just to irritate your friends with. I have been asked to bring E45 cream, Valoids, South African flag stickers, Carol Boyes stuff and Klippies by friends so far... :whome:

Hi Euneze,

So pak, julle, pak!!

Groete

Tania

Hi Euneze (again!)

So week voordat jou Container gepak word moet jy 'n polisie klaringsbewys kry (Gewoonlik by toetssentrums).

Jongste is 9, so ek sal vir hom kry.

Hi

I did not read the whole thread, so please excuse me if I repeat anything. Phenagran ointment for skin allergies, and mosquito bites! Corenza C for colds and flu, here the over the counter medicine is Vit C and Paracetemol. Our Venter Trailer, someone said before, plastic stuff, really expensive here. Paid almost $60 for a plastic washing basket the other day! If you live in a cold region, blankets, I brought mine over, but the Saffers here that didn't bring theirs over, say theyre really sorry they didn't, the onces you get here is not the same as ours in SA.

Greetings

I havent read all the replys you have so here is my opinion.

We brought a box with groceries. I dont know what would be the problem. They were declared and allowed. Nothing like meat , but All Gold jams and Tomato sauce. Cross and Blackwell mayonaise, Pro nutro , Marie biscuits, sweets like winegums and jelly tots, You can buy Mrs balls here in Coles. Smarties , Bar ones,

You pay tax on alchohol in your container, in your acompanied baggage it is taxfree , 3 bottles per person. Check on liquids in your carry on . 100ml bottles only . You could end up loosing perfumes and personal hygiene products in bigger containers on carry on.

Electric multi plugs with the 2 pin sockets for you chargers for you cell phones , video cameras, Take one in your luggage. You change the plug on the multi plug to Oz style and you instantly have a few SA plugs for hair dryers and the like while you settle in. You can only buy plugs from specialised electric shops.

Clothes are expensive , but you can shop around. Mr Price is apparently looking at comming over if there is enough interest. So go and tell them on their web site to come.

I have had some of the best biltong and wors I have tasted in my life since I have been here. Expensive but good.

Your toys , and your kids toys if you have space. It will give you something to do. All your electricals. Check out the situation on new goods. If something is not older than a year you could end up paying tax on it.

We brought a lot of bedding . All our cd's and dvd's. My sons x-box. ( Came carry on ) . Gave him some normality in the transision and you can watch movies on it.

Standard TV are about $160 dollars so think that one through.

If you bring anything that has been outside, like a lawn mower , camping equipment , outdoor sports equipment, it has to be spotless, The cleaning cost you get charged here to clean it if they are not happy with your attempt, is often more than the cost of new equipment here. A guy was charged to clean his lawn mower, twice what a new one would have cost.

Good luck
