Also . . . . I'm in the process of getting a digital SLR camera (gotta wait for another dividend cheque, though!)

I've heard Canon are very good, but Nikon also allow you to use your lenses from previous models on their new latest models, so they're not junk when upgrading, unlike some other camera maunfacturers.

Anyone got any clues or tips on which digital SLR camera to consider buying, up to $2,500 in price????

Can't go wrong with a Canon, mate, but then again I'm biased... been using a 350D for the last 3 years and very happy. Best to buy through Digital Discount Photographics in Sydney, their prices are VERY good, courier to Adelaide would be $28.

The Canon EOS 450D should be good enough - the body plus Twin Lens Kit (18-55mm and 55-250mm) will set you back $1355 and you have a great range from 18-250mm.

The following lenses are quite nice too:

CANON 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye Wide Angle Lens

CANON 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens

Plus I see their prices have dropped again by about 2%...

For reviews, have a look at the following:

The Benro tripods are really nice, see Photoshop Studio in Sydney.

Hi

Finally managed to upload...with a little help from my friends!

These are some photo's I took while on a LSD trip in March 2007. Australia is so beautiful it is difficult to choose, but here are some of my favourites. The photo's were taken with a Canon 350D.

This photo is of Perth, taken from Kings Park.

Thanks for the good advice, folks.

It would seem that you can't go wrong with either a Nikon or Canon, accoring to Flickr's calculations.

The photo of the moon on a Canon was good enough for an ol' timer like me!

Anything over a certain price is not getting 'Bang for buck", so I figured $2 500 would be around the "sweet spot" for value and quality with what I want to do.

Cheers!

Hi Bob,

Just wanted to add that I got the Canon 400D with a twin lens kit in Jan 08. I managed to get it at the Good Guys for $1000. canon have just released their 450D so I would imagine that its quite possible to get a really good deal on the 400D at the moment that would bring you way under your $2500 budget, with a decent amount left over for some fun toys to go with it :ilikeit:

leboerseun/Pixel baie goeie photo's

As ek enige raad kan gee koop die body appart en koop behoorlik lense apart ... Die lense wat jy saam (A kit) kry is gewoonlik nie goeie lense nie.

Ek het n Canon 40D met 2 lense

1) Canon EF F2.8 100mm macro

2) Canon EF F4.5 F5.6 24-105 mm L

3) Canon EF F4.5 ? 100-400mm (Next lens I HOPE )

Baie duur hobby maar ook baie lekker ;)

Hier is so paar photo's wat ek gisteraand geneem het.

Hi Chris & Natasha

Beautiful photo's! ;) I love night shots...

I am currently shopping for a macro lens (have a Canon 350D) - do you swear by your Canon EF F2.8 100mm macro, or have any other suggestions? I don't know much about lenses as yet, still very much an amateur, but want to be sure to get the "right" one. I've previously heard people say that a 90mm is the best, but there seem to be so many to choose from. What is your view?

Anyone else have an opinion about macro lenses? Would love to hear from you.

Porn or art?

May 26 2008 at 10:42AM

Sydney - Australia's arts community reacted with anger and amazement on Monday to the closure of a photo exhibition of naked children and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's condemnation of the images as "revolting."

Playwright Michael Gow said the treatment of respected Australian photographer Bill Henson, whose exhibition of images of naked 12 and 13-year-olds was shut down by police last week, was unacceptable.

Rudd led criticism of the dark and moody photographs after complaints from the public that they were pornographic.

"I find them absolutely revolting," the prime minister said, adding that they were without artistic merit.

'I find them absolutely revolting'

Gow, the artistic director of the Queensland Theatre Company, said this was at odds with Rudd's comments at a brain-storming meeting he called last month which included 100 leading members of the country's arts community.

"Among the many cliches endorsed at the 2020 Summit was the one about art... being provocative and challenging," Gow wrote in a letter to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Now that some art has provoked, what has happened? The prime minister who invited us to Canberra has questioned the abilities and credentials of a major Australian artist."

Gow urged others who attended the meeting, which was co-chaired by Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, to join his protest over the treatment of Henson.

Police shut down Sydney's Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery ahead of the opening of Henson's exhibition last week following complaints from the public over photographs that feature frontal nudity.

They are now considering laying charges involving indecency.

The former director of Canberra's National Gallery of Australia, Betty Churcher, said there was no suggestion of pornography in Henson's works, which she described as "breathtakingly beautiful."

"How they could incite anything other than admiration I can't imagine," she told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

"In this day and age, we are going far too far in the wrong direction of censorship. Will we end up being so censored that there's nothing left for us to contemplate?"

Canon EF F2.8 100mm macro is THE best macro but a bit expensive R5000 + There is a cheaper way of getting even closer macro pics ... but have only seen picture (GREAT ones ) it the Raynox DCR-250 macro lens and only about R600, you snap it onto a lens your lens any lens up to 58 mm diameter.

This is not mine just googled it

Hope it helped
