Here is my house in Edmonton, Canada. I know this post actually belongs in the SA-Canada part, but I have long gone forgot my password. And because people thinking of moving to Canada, seems to me also read the SA-Australia part. The guys who can move posts, feel free to move this one to the SA-Canada side if you wish.I will add some pictures of the neighborhood too. We live in a middleclass part of the neighborhood. There are estate parts too, but we all share the same parks: from the apartments to the estate homes.I would love to have a brick home one day again, but it seems the Aussies like the wooden houses too. My dream house will be build with ICF-blocks (insulated concrete forms) with styrofoam underneath the concrete floor and the orientation of the living areas to the north (in Aus) and minimum windows to the west, except if I can have huge deciduous trees on that side to block the sun in the summer; all dreams, but hey, if I stop dreaming, you can just as well bury me.Front of the house:This is a 1580 sq.ft. house (146 sq.m.)No fences in the front which is nice, but I will have to get use to sleeping with my bedroom overlooking the street and on the same level as the street. My bedroom now also overlook the street, but at least I'm on the 2nd floor. Difference between the Canadian and Australian houses to me is that the middleclass families usually live in 2-storey houses in Canada, because one level houses or bungalows as they are called here, are too expensive. While in Australia it looks like I will be able again to live in a one level house, can't wait!!!Back yard:We have wooden fences too, it was part of the architectural guide lines. Either the grey painted wooden fence or the black painted chain fence (draad heining). I prefer the bit of privacy. Die prairies is die mooiste plek in die somer. As Canada nie so koud was nie, het ek net hier gebly. Hier is Suid-Afrikaners in Kanada wat floreer in die koue en gaan ski en alles. Ek sou graag wou cross-country skiing leer doen, maar my man het absoluut geen begeerte om enige aktiwiteit buite in die koue te doen nie. Ek verkies om dit nie alleen te doen nie.Ek kan doen met warmer weer en snaaks genoeg my man wil nie meer dit te warm he nie. Wel, Utopia bestaan nie. Dis of te warm een of ander stadium in die jaar of te koud een of ander stadium in die jaar en waar dit nie te koud of te warm is nie, is dit te nat. 'n Beter plek vir hom sou wees Victoria, Australia, maar hulle soek nie rekenaar mense genoeg dat hulle dit op hulle regional permanent visa wil sit nie, in elk geval nie in sy specialization nie. Dis Perth of Adelaide vir ons. Ek verkies Adelaide, maar sal Perth vat as ons nie regkom met Adelaide nie.Ek sien die Suid-Afrikaners is bekommerd oor die klein erfies. Wel, omdat daar soveel parke is, ook in Australia wat veilig is, het jou kind genoeg speel plek, jy moet net bereid wees om saam te gaan. Die voordeel van ons woonbuurt en ek sou graag in so 'n woonbuurt in Australia ook wou bly, is dat dit parke en wandellane en speelgronde het loopafstand van my huis af want dis deel van die woonbuurt. Baie mense kom hiernatoe gery om ons wandellane te geniet. En die voordeel van die klein erfie en ek soek nie 'n groter een in Australia as wat ek hier in Canada het nie, is dat ek my hele erf kan toemaak met plante, gras en concrete. Sorry ek het ongelukkige nie 'n foto van ons Sydney huis nie sal dit later pos. Maar met 'n bietjie geluk sal my plaas huis opkom, 'n ou groovy karavan met geen krag of aangelede water, en moet net nie praat van gereiwe nie, moet nog huis bou. Eendag oor so 4 jaar gaan ons daar aftree met baie min skuld.
