Our first few days in Cairns

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I was away (from the forum) for a week or so hence my late response, but in short:

Congrats and Welcome to Australasia.

(Well I have to put it like that considering that my own interests do not lie in Aus but in New Zealand).

But most of all, welcome to the rest of your life. Our lifestyle (and I do not mean moneywise) and our quality of life has improved a 100(0) fold since our big move 5 odd years ago.

I hope yours does too. Have fun.

Very nice pics.

HI everyone

Don't know if you guys remember that I had a interview still in SA with a CA firm here in Cairns. Well since we have arrived and I have had a second interview again and well I can say that I have an offer finally and it looks good, better than expected so I am quite happy!!

Hubby starts work tomorrow and I'll start 2nd of May.

Hubby is also so excited at the moment. Hungry Jacks just advertised a new burger of theirs and it has mushroom sauce on. Well went went straight of to them today for lunch to buy this but they don't have it yet, only from tomorrow. Shame he was quite disappointed but so excited at the prospect of having a burger with mushroom sauce on.

Otherwise we are settling in, browsing the suburbs and enjoying the weather. Chat soon

xx

Lekkerbly

Yesterday hubby and I were walking around in Bunnings (he was like a child in a candy shop) and my ear just picked up some Afrikaans speaking going on. I made a 360 degree turn and sort of followed the people. B) Yes they were definitely talking afrikaans. I was so excited and couldn't believe what I was hearing. I just walked up to them and said "Hoor ek dalk afrikaans?". Then we started chatting and they have been here like 4 years or something. Also from Cape Town would you believe? :P Well they are just a nice couple and their mom is visiting them from Gansbaai and tomorrow we will be joining them to go to Green Island and to check out the reef a bit.

They say apparently they are a few Saffers here in Cairns, close to where they live they have about 6 families. :o

Now we can get some inside info to Cairns and how to meet.make some ozzie friends. :)

Hello almal

Vandag was die most amazing!!

Ek was so paniek bevange oor die hele setup.

Hulle sê daar is maklik so 40-50 SA'ners hierso in Cairns. Hy en sy vrou is nou al so 4 jaar hierso.

Hi dear Dedrei,

I am so glad to hear that things are going so well !! I have been reading your updates with great interest. Hehehehe, I had to giggle at your hubby's face in front of the BBQ.. My hubs had great sympathy with it, he said something about it not being a braai, more like an outdoor hotplate... :)

I am very glad that you have met other Saffers and that they are kind to you !! I am a TOTAL nut when it comes to the ocean and sea life and so I was fascinated with your experience. It is first on my Things to do up North list !! Thanks very much for keeping us posted on your day-to-day life, it's all very interesting. Oh ja, love the ritzy little car ! Very nice ! My 6 year old loved your photos of the rainforest, they are doing it at school at the moment and one of his little friends (an Australian-Korean) was telling them that Oz has rainforest too. He was very chuffed to confirm her claims with 'yip, my mommy even has a friend who lives there and sent her pictures of it' :o

Keep well and thanks so much for sharing your life with us like this !

Love from here

Wow,

Hoop wanneer ons beurt kom sal dit effens minder stressvol wees.

Bly jy is gelukkig waar jy bly!

Michele
