Our Process.

Recommended Posts

Hi

So from deciding that immigration to Aus is for us in the beginning of April we have been chasing up every shred of information we can. I figure I may as well plot our progress here.

Sarah will be the primary applicant due to her being a Sonographer on short skills. She contacted a recruitment agent early in April and they have quite a few prospective opportunities lined up.

We then went to a few seminars with immigration agents and have decided to go with a Perth based agency that works alongside the recruitment agent. And yes, I took the forum advise and checked that they are properly registered.

Sarah wrote her Speaking IELTS on Wednesday and the balance yesterday, so now for the hurry up and wait for the results.

Will keep you posted.

If she achieves the 7 and above for all modules, the next step is registration with the Radiographic board of Australia.

We had an estate agent around yesterday to start the selling process, I know it's early but we anticipate that it may get tough to sell in the very near future.

Sadly, I put my motorbike on the market last night, but can always get a new one in Aus.

Will keep you posted.

Good morning.

So Sarah's IELTS results are in with an overall score of 8, with only listening at 7.5.

We had a telephonic meeting with our immigration agent last week and she calculates us at 55 points with the IELTS at 7, we are assuming that the 7.5 keeps us in the 7 band and thus we lose out on the extra 10 points for an 8.

Since Sarah is on the long term short skills list in most states,we may apply on the State sponsored visa 190 stream for the extra 5 points. So now to narrow down a state, can we apply for multiple states?

Next step is for Sarah to submit her paperwork for ASMIRT registration and we have been warned that this may take up to 4 months, so hurry up and wait stage 2 will be in effect. During this time we will get all paperwork in order for the EOI.

Keep well all!

Ta2

Hi ta2bryan, just a few tips. Make sure about all the requirements of asmirt - qualification and experience -. They do take long and you things could get delayed if any of your documents are missing - check guide lines on the website- really stricked. Remember the assement takes 4 months the visa 4-7months and the board takes another 4 months. Be careful before you start selling anything. Just for interest sake check the requirements from the board! Asmirt & Ahpra separate boards and need to do both. Not to sure if sonographer is also on the ahpra board but you probably going to need to register on some sort of board (something equivalent to hpcsa in sa)

Thanks for that. The primary reason for putting the house on the market so early is that once interest rates rise, selling will become more difficult.

Sarah has been in contact with ASMIRT and we are also using a Specialist recruitment agent. We will be sending all documentation to the recruitment agent first and she will advise what is missing so as to avoid any unnecessary delay.

We have been advised that the registration with ASAR can only occur after we have received a VISA.

Submitting paperwork this week, so will keep you updated.

Sounds like you are on top of things @Ta2Bryan

I'm with you on putting your house up for sale early. The market is already sluggish and you can always rent or stay with family or friends if you sell early.

We applied to both NSW and Victoria for a 190, at no cost. Victoria responded first and since we had always been most attracted to Melbourne, we were happy. A heads up on the 190 that I was not aware of is that once a state has agreed to sponsor you, you get an immediate ITA and can submit your visa application. Hope all goes well with the skills assessment.

HI all.

We're pretty much in full hurry-up-and-wait mode.

ASMIRT has received all my wife's documentation and are evaluating, been just on a month so far. We will start getting anxious by the end of Sept.

Good news is the house is sold, so we have to be out in 8 weeks, will be renting in the interim.

Not much more to report.

Finally some good news!

We moved out our house last weekend into a short term rental. The same weekend Sarah rewrote her IELTS in the hope of receiving above 8 throughout, we get those results on Friday. (difference between 60 and 70 points)

Then, this morning Sarah received her certification from ASMIRT to practice in Aus, so all systems go!

Friday will determine if we apply for a 189 or 486 Visa.

Will keep you all posted.

Has anyone here entered on a Work sponsored Visa and applied for PR later?

How difficult is that process and how long do we have to wait to apply for PR?

Good luck with today, should she receive the marks as needed you will probably receive your invite next week! Congratulation on ASMIRT!

Received some good news on Friday, Sarah achieved an overall 8.5 on her IELTS rewrite.

We will be submitting our EOI this week and start preparing for the 189 Visa application.

Would it be unreasonable to start planning our life to be there April next year?

I think April is overly optimistic; you need to factor in the following:

  • Time needed to put together the 189 application. Do you already have your Police Clearance certs?
  • Time from submitting the EOI to actually being invited to apply
  • Processing time for a 189 currently stands at 7 - 8 months. Submitting an application doesn't mean your application is in the queue - it just means its in the queue to get in the queue (so to speak).

BUT sometimes the system surprises you and depending on the number of points you have and the number of other applicants currently in the queue, you may get a direct grant pretty quickly.

Good luck!

@TamTam Question was a little tongue in cheek, should of used the emoticons, just want to get on an plane already.

We live in hope for a quick process due to Sonographers being in very short supply, but 4 months (If you exclude Dec and half of January) would be a miracle indeed.;)

Hi All!

We are finally in the Visa process.

We have our Medicals on Wednesday and then we hope to submit early next week. The only outstanding document is our unabridged marriage certificate, 7 months and counting since applying, we have paid someone to expedite, so holding thumbs. Should we try submitting our standard marriage certificate or wait on the unabridged before submitting?

It is surreal that we are this far and our departure date is in the hands of bureaucracy.

Sarah had a phone interview this morning with a practice in Wollongong. Will a job offer assist us at all in the PR visa application process?

Have a gentle week all!

My understanding is that you should rather wait for the unabridged certificate and that if you are applying for a 189 a job offer doesn't speed up the process since it's an independent visa.

BUT I could be wrong :)

I was under the impression that you DON'T need an unabridged marriage certificate for the 189 visa, the abridged version will do. At least, I applied with our abridged one, so I hope that's the case... I read somewhere that you need an unabridged marriage certificate for your citizenship application, though.

Also, I think you can apply to have the 189 application be placed in the priority queue with a job offer under certain conditions, but I don't know what those conditions are - best to check with an agent.

It's possible the requirements have changed - but I received my 189 in 2013 and I was required to supply an unabridged certificate that was apostilled.

Eeek....nowhere that I've seen does it specify it must be unabridged, but I'm more inclined to believe actual experience than an omission on a website - so I think I'll be contacting docassist to get it!

@iambrettstar We recently applied and received our 189 visa and we did not need an unabridged marriage certificate. This was info we received from our agent. I have seen on the forum other people needing one, but it may be for a different visa type and also I think the conditions and requirements have changed over the years.

@iambrettstar you can trust what @Clauderoy says. Her and her hubby also have 189 and they did their visa process more recently than me. So it sounds like the rules have changed.

I also read somewhere that the requirements regarding abridged versus unabridged have been relaxed as so many people are having issues getting them from DHA. Do not quote me on this
