Hi fellow forum members,

Had my first SKYPE interview yesterday for a position in Sydney. Got an email this morning to let me know the Sales Director would like to chat with me on Monday via SKYPE. The interesting part is that Roland Coombes from  "Itouch professional solutions" did my CV for me and the gentleman that interviewed me congratulated me on the format of the CV.

Roland Coombes - Business Manager
itouch professional solutions
Freephone: 1800 450 527

www.resume-solutions.com.au

In the meanwhile I have asked another lady that is known to the forum to complete my LinkedIn profile for me and she asked for my CV - she said my CV needs major attention and that after Roland completed my CV for me.

I just want to confirm for anybody that needs help with their CV that Roland does a good job, yes sure everybody has their own style when creating a CV....but it is still nice to hear from a possible future employer that your CV looks nice and is very easy to read.

All the best

Congratulations on the interview and i hope all goes well and you get the position :)

Could you advise what Roland charges for his service?

Hi @Deezo

Thanks

Roland is most probably the most expensive, he charged 400 AUD for my resume & cover letter. The other option is Roz Fisher - CV Specialist rozzieoz@gmail.com there are some good reviews of her work on the forum and on LinkedIn - she charges about half the price.

If you have time you might find some examples of resumes on the forum that other members shared. Should you wish to build your resume yourself.

Cheers

Excellent :)

Its great to know so that once we have our Visa granted then we can begin planning the next step and budget accordingly etc too.

I will definitely contact them for some advice if we decide on looking while in SA otherwise we may stay with friends and then apply once in NSW.

Thanks again and holding thumbs for you!! ;)

My husband got his CV done by Roland and the feedback even before we came to Oz was very good. They all said how impressed they were with his CV. Yes he is quite expensive but in my opinion he was well wort it. When we came to Australia it took only 3 weeks for my husband to get a job and now he is In a Senior position after only 8 months here.

It is funny that you approached Roz regarding your LinkedIn profile as we approached her just for an update at which she informed us that the CV done by Roland was not good. Absolute rubbish! I didn't particularly care for her attitude to be honest. When you get specialist recruitment consultants who have been in the business for years commending your CV you know the guy did a good job. Its ok to tout for business but don't be dishonest. That is one of the reasons I always recommend Roland to people on this forum. You get what you pay for :-)

All the best Geite going forward and getting that job :-)

Hi @emmayenkanna

Thanks:rolleyes:

Did not want to say anything, but it was Roz that gave me the feedback about my CV....anyways it seems like there is still good feedback about her work on the forum & LinkedIn. I am just unhappy/with the fact that she told me that my CV is no good after Roland Coombes did such an amazing job with it.....

"Sorry to deliver such bad news!
I don't think there is any point in updating your LinkedIn if your CV is going to let you down.
"Your CV needs major work, there are some huge issues with it - would you like a joint quote?"

I wanted to ask her to just "re-energize" my LinkedIn profile and due to my own budget constraints approached her, but will rather wait and ask Roland to do the job in the near future.

So we learn from each other....

Cheers

Agree with @emmayenkanna that she is just drumming up business (in the worst possible way in my opinion by planting seeds of doubt and fear).

Roland does an awesome job from what I have seen. CV styles change over the years too and he is up to date with what works well nowadays.

Ive made a couple of free youtubes about tweaking your LinkedIn profile based on some training I did on this a while ago. So if you want links to them just post here. It's not hard to do. It's just knowing where to put the focus and how the profile gets indexed by LinkedIn.

Thanks @RYLC.  Those video tutorials are helpful.

@Geite and @emmayenkanna, thank you for the reference for Roland Coombes.  Would you say that Roland's service is specialised to particular professions, or is it widely applicable to all professions?

Hi Kevin, I have been on this forum for a few years now and I know several people on here that have had great success with Rolands CV. All of them from varied professions. To get  more information I would suggest typing Roland Coombes in the search bar at the top of the page, you will see plenty of threads and posts relating to him and his work. I know Accountants, engineers, IT professionals that have used him in the past that previously were not getting any interest when applying for jobs. My husband like Geite also got 2 Skype interviews even before moving to OZ. You need something that will make you stand out and use the language that HR managers are looking for. My husband always says it was the best money he ever spent!!

I wish you all the best and good luck with your job hunting :-)

Hi guys,

How important do you think a really good LinkedIn profile is in the "job hunting" process?

Thanks

VERY! It's huge in Australia, all my interviewers looked at my profile and I've been head hunted for two jobs off of my profile. Sites like SEEK can link directly with LinkedIn in sending your CV and several applications have asked for my LinkedIn profile.

  • 2 months later...

I really am looking for someone to assist with our CV's but 400 AUD is just ludicrous and we cannot afford to spend another R8000 just for CV's!!! :(

Anyone know of someone else who is a lot more cost-effective perhaps?

Ludicrous? $400 is 3-4 days of rent here in Sydney, less than a week of day care or 16 hours of cleaning/housekeeping. If $400 is what it takes to successfully land a job with a company that are experts at providing a service, quantifying their costs with successful placements/interviews $400 is a small price to pay for the outcome of employment.

Cheers

I dont doubt the effectiveness, expertise or the cost (in relation to an Australian income) but from South Africa its really going to stretch our budget and there still isn't any guarantees that we will land a job... Please dont get me wrong as im not knocking Roland in any way, but when you trying to save on every cent (on the ZAR) then its not easy as we have already spend R100k for my wife and i thus far!

Just looking for alternatives perhaps ;)

Thanks @AFreshStart

You present a very strong case for spending the money on getting your CV revisited @AFreshStart.  Something else that I've been wondering about is whether it is worth it becoming a member of a professional body like ACS.

@SurferMan @dlmonnink, you're the first guys I could think of off the top of my head. Do you know what difference having ACS membership makes considering Software Engineering is not a protected trade and membership is not a requirement  to work?

Australian computer society, they do the skills assessments for all IT related occupations. In the positive skills assessment letter it stated that I could become an ACS member.

Deezo, also go all out on your Linkedin profile. Its huge here. Join every industry related group you can find on there. Research and read till your eyes hurt. Try and make as many connections as possible. Use the search function on this forum and try to connect (pick brains and ask for help/direction) with anybody in a similar line of work as you. If all else fails, decide between you two who has the better chance of landing a job or who has the better earning power or what ever (you fight it out) and take the professional CV leap with that person. All the best.
