Visa costs & refunds

Deezo

Question

Hi

I don't know if this has been answered before but i cant seem to find any information on this forum or anything specific online but if your Visa application is refused/declined due to a health issue (that you didn't know about or know would be grounds for refusal) then are you entitled to a refund?

I am aware if your provided false information then its unlikely that they would but in the situation around a health issue that you didn't know would have grounds for a refusal...

Really confused as we don't want to submit the paperwork, pay and do medicals to find out they wont allow us in for some reason and then we lose all our money!!

Any help or experiences from anyone would be great as we are NOT using an agent :)

Thanks!

I do remember seeing a schedule of each medical condition and the associated costs. Will have to try find it. It was a bit like an insurance schedule for disability and disease where they stipulate exactly what you get for each condition.

I would be very interested in seeing that list if you had it...

I know about the 40k over 5y limit. But cant find each individual condition costings.

This is all I could find for info on medicals. It's a bit long but perhaps worth a read for people looking for specific info. I haven't read the whole thing so if your particular situation isn't mentioned then you might have to ask Google more specific questions.

Thanks @RYLC:)

I have been through this but it still isn't any clear indication so we would need to speak with the panel doctor and/or psychiatrist to get a better understanding.

@FingersCrossed i also didn't feel that it would but if you have a "condition" that is no normal or standard then it will get referred and further investigations and motivational reports etc will be required and for me i wanted make sure that we were comfortable before going down this road because if that is the case then you wont get any feedback until the Visa if granted or refused and you therefore wont get if refund if refused.

So just covering my bases upfront ;)

@Deezo - Yes I fully agree with your plan of action. rather be safe than sorry. I am planning on spending time this weekend researching this and finding out as much information as I can. I am sure that other individuals have gone through this during immigration with the same condition so I am sure that they will have some advice on the best way to get this done.

I am also going to speak to my wife's psychologist as I am sure that they have provided reference / specialist letters for other individuals. There is no way that we are the first people to go through this.

Absolutely @FingersCrossed ;)

I spoke with another guy on a Facebook forum who was on four different types of medication for his bipolar and he advised that he got his psychiatrist to issue a letter detailing all the information and then he was granted his visa.

This was in 2013 though and i have heard things have become more stricter but i don't know or cant say for sure so its just C.Y.A (cover your a$$) ;)

@FingersCrossed i spoke to the doctor on the panel for Durban today and he advised me that its highly unlikely that my wife would be refused because of a health condition like bipolar (even if she was still on medication).

He also advised that they dont refuse many visa applications at all and only severe conditions are obvious but he says just get all your documents and letters from the psychiatrist together and take along to your medical and then it will be sent off with the actual medical reports etc.

All the best with the next steps and may you and your family be blessed with your Visa to begin your new life ahead :)

Hi @Deezo and @FingersCrossed - Any further development with your medicals? My family and i are booked for next week. I am stressing as i have already paid for VISA in full and my medical concerns are:

  1. My 8 year old has severe ADHD and is on meds for it. She is also at a special needs school :(
  2. I am type 2 diabetic

My daughter is a bigger concern for me...

Any advise?

Hi @JJDLmoving

Our medicals went through with no problems. I had to get a letter from my wife's doctor for the medication she was taking - it was like a report that outlined her diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

That was then sent with our medicals and it all got approved with no problems.

I think you need to make sure you have letters from doctors for your conditions to prove that it is well managed, that you are a contributing member of society and that you wont be a burden on their medical system.

Try and call the doctor that you are going to your medicals for and ask them what other supporting documentation you need to bring through. When I called mine they told us exactly what they were looking for which made getting everything together easier.

Hope this helps.
