Moving to Adelaide in June 2016

Hi all.

So after all the tests have been taken, forms have been filled, qualifications assessed, money paid, patience tried, tears cried....we are down to 21 days until we begin the biggest most exciting adventure of our lives thus far...16 June 2016. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our journey this far, this forum has carried us through a very emotional and challenging time and we appreciate all of your advice and support.

Although I feel we are well researched and well prepared, one cannot help but be rattled by the fact that you are entering into a whole new unknown world, a new lifestyle, new culture, where things will never again be the same....I guess one can liken it to the experience of having your first child, no matter how well you prepare or how others try and advise you, you have to just do it and learn on your feet, everyone's experience is different and unique.

And so we're jumping in feet first, 3 kids in tow, no jobs, little money and a whole lot of FAITH!

Would love to hear from others on the forum making the move to Adelaide soon?

Hi Jolene, we are on the last leg of our application, so holding on for hopefully a visa grant soon.  If successful we will also settle in Adelaide, but only plan to move Dec 2017.  So i look forward to reading all about your settling in experiences as we've never been to Adelaide.

Hi Jolene,

So close for you guys! And the 16th June is my birthday, so an auspicious day for us both! :D

We still have 185 more sleeps until we go - flights are booked for 27 Nov. My daughter is in matric, so we will head off as soon as she has finished her final exam. That'll leave only the youngest of our 3 still in school when we arrive (she is 13). How old are your children?

Have you shortlisted suburbs and schools where you would like to settle? We are aiming for Mount Barker and the surrounding suburbs in the Hills.

We have done pretty much everything we can think of to prepare for when we land. Everyday I trawl the local websites: job portals; 'permanent' rental portals; newspapers;  watch the Adelaide news etc etc - all to be as best prepared as we can. However, sometimes it is about just keeping the faith that everything will work out, it reaches a point when it is out of our hands. I think we are pretty close to reaching that point!

I can't even begin to think how excited/terrified you must be feeling. I just feel euphoria, until I think about saying goodbye to my mom, and then the doubts and fears creep in. She alone is the only reason that I dread going, otherwise I think we will leave without hardly a backwards glance.

Best of luck with the last minute things!

Ros :)
