Medicals

Hi,

I cannot seem to find my daughters immunisation form, she was born in 2006 so I am a bit worried now. My son has a reference number and is captured on the Government System but she is not. Does anyone know what can be done or how I can get around this?

Hi

Can anyone advise on venues in Durban for medicals or is Shipmed the only company one can use in Durban?

Also has anyone had any issues with medicals for anxiety, depression or bipolar?

Thanks so much :)

I read a story on this forum of a VISA app being denied based on Medicals

Ouch, can you remember why?  I've never even considered the medicals being a reason for rejection!  Was this before or after they paid the VISA fee?

I think this is after payment has been made @ChrisH as i believe you can only get your reference number once your payment has been made and documents have been uploaded...

Not 100% sure but perhaps someone who knows the process best can advise as we have one health concern that i cannot seem to find much information on :(

That would be pretty ridiculous getting declined AFTER paying $6300...

Deezo, I can't see you being denied a visa for those conditions. If you are taking medications for those conditions declare it when asked. If not I wouldn't even mention them. They deny visa's for big things. Cancer, TB, HIV. Communicable diseases and things that will cost their nationalized health service big money. I'm a Type 1 diabetic and I got in no problem. If I didn't declare it they wouldn't have known. However I certainly don't advocate trying to hide anything. That could turn out very bad for you.

You can request HAP id's before submitted the 189 application, which is exactly what I did. Medical was clear, but didn't want to risk losing the R80k!

@Deezo declare it. The doctor who did our medicals said that it's only major things that get rejected. E.g A guy had a chest x-rx-ray and they found a mass that he wasn't aware of. This is why they do these checks. I think it's a good thing. How many of us actually go for an annual check up? Hope that helps?

Thanks @vitchie

We are looking at 190 so i assume we would be able to do the same?

When do we request for the HAP ID's and would this be via our CO once a CO has been appointed?

You do the application for HAP ID's on immi account https://online.immi.gov.au/ola/app

Click "New Application", then Health, then My Health Declarations as the application type.

My wife suffers with depression but was diagnosed as bipolar which was so medical aid could pay as chronic but my wife hasn't been on the medication since May 2016 and she is fine so we were thinking of getting another Psychiatrist to re-diagnose her as this was incorrect as her main condition was depression as a result of a hijacking 3 years ago that was never treated etc...

We just worried we will be rejected because of this :(

I am slightly terrified of the Medicals not going to lie... My husband is fine, he recently had a full and very thorough medical done by his company and he is healthy. I however am worried about my cholesterol, it's always been on the high side and I have not been medicating with statins (and I've been Banting so probably even worse now!!). My dad also just had a triple bypass and my mom is on statins, so heart disease is in my family.

Does anyone remember whether their cholesterol was tested, and if it was higher than the acceptable level, what consequence this had (if any)?

They don't test cholesterol. I had my medical done and all was cleared. A month later discovery denied by dread disease in another medical cover due to cholesterol. As far as I can tell, the bloodtest is just for HIV and not a broad spectrum test.

@DeezoI think you should definitely get her re diagnosed especially if you are worried. And the fact that she hasn't been on medication for a few months means something. SO many people suffer from depression, I really don't think that that would be reason for you to be denied. This is just my thoughts...i'm no expert unfortunately. I think the most important thing is that you don't lie about anything. If you lie about that, what else are you lying about.

My wife is also on anti-depressants and mentioned to the examining doctor. He wrote it in his notes, but gave her the clear on the medical result.

Thank you @Sarah28 & @vitchie :)

We will cross the bridge with the examining doctor when we get there but we just didn't want to go down the road of paying and then we have an issue!

@vitchie am i correct in saying you can only do the HAP ID's application once your invitation has been issued?

I am sure you can do it before, but I wouldn't suggest it. I did it after receiving invite, but before lodging application. If you do the medical too early you will have less time to get to Australia to activate your visa as you only have a year from PCC/medical issue date.

Thank goodness! This makes me feel better. I'm getting tested again in any case with my own personal doctor so I can go onto statins if necessary, but just didn't want it to trip us up in the visa process. So that's good to know.

Does anyone have experience with heart conditions for the medical test? My husband has a congenital heart defect and as a result he has a pacemaker, he's generally in good health but obviously we will disclose the condition and the pacemaker will show up on the X-ray.

Hi @Tntaglia

I would possibly seek assistance from an experienced agent around a heart condition...

From all the research i have done the Australian Government will only refuse/reject a visa application under certain situations pertaining to TB, HIV, Cancers, Dialysis etc as these are current and ongoing health conditions that require extensive treatment going forward.

So to prevent huge costs to the Healthcare system they need to assess the ongoing costs over a 5yr period and this should not exceed AUD$40,000.

I am not an agent or a specialist by any means so if you not using an agent then contact Reuven from Migrate2Oz for further advice perhaps.

All the best :)

Thanks Deezo - the costs should be much less than that over 5 years (in SA terms maybe R50,000 - R100,000 once every 8-9 years) so we should be in with a shot. Will get more info from the agents.

Great stuff :)

If you may have read we had a shock as well after already spending +- R33k to the point of invite only to find out there could be a health condition but we are positive that it wont be a problem and have to leave things in Gods hands ;)

All the best!
