Medicals

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

I read a story on this forum of a VISA app being denied based on Medicals. I am now slightly concerned that my kids illnesses ( asthma and allergies) may impact our application right at the end.

I am still in the beginning phases and would like some advice on where I can do the necessary health queries at this early stage.

I really hope its possible to do some checks.

Thanks

Hi TashyL,

The below list of doctors are taken straight from the Immigration Australian site, http://www.immi.gov.au/Help/Locations/Pages/South-Africa.aspx. I would much rather pay for a Doctor's consultation and get an all clear before committing serious time, effort and money into your application. Although I can't see you being denied a visa for something like asthma and allergies. But if you are at all concerned I think it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't want to be worrying over the next 3-6 months if you'll get tripped up at the last hurdle.

I have asthma and allergies and I'm in my 30s and it's not on their list (I passed my medicals).

There's a form online on the immi.gov.au site around health that lists these as minors.

My son has asthma, daughter has excema, all thanks to allergies. We didn't have any problem with the medicals.

I have high blood pressure and in my late 30's. Does anyone know if I would have a problem with my medicals?

I had high blood pressure when I applied. You will need to bring your blood pressure medication with to the examination. You shoukd do that with any meds you are on.

In my case they just tested my blood pressure, found it was normal and I passed.

I was told that I would only become an issue if they thought my blood pressure issue was a symptom of an even bigger problem. In which case I would have to be checked out by a specialist to rule it out.

But as always with these things, none of what I have told you is "official" and the Aussie government may have changed their policy by the time you go for medicals :(. That's unfortunately the risk you take when applying for a visa.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. It does help. However it is scary when you consider how much of time and money you would have invested in the process by the time you get to the medical. They should start the process with medicals!

I recently enquired with Tyger Valley Intercare for an appointment.

They sent me a general application letter in which it is stated ''This examination may not be performed more that 6 months before intended date of travel to Australia.''

Anyone else ever heard of this before? I thought we had roughly a year from the date of the first issued document of either our medicals or PCC?

We are doing medicals now but have only planned our activation holiday for March 2016.

I find myself agreeing with Monsta (again)

I was found with HBP and was not being treated for it so Cobb sent me to a cardiologist who tortured me on a treadmill, examined me all over, sonared my heart, prescribed medication and sent off a report. And here I am ....

They don't because your medicals "expire". What they mean is you may develop an illness or a condition before you arrive. If you develop a serious medical condition, then the clean bill of health you got 2 years ago is meaningless.

We the same form at Tygervalley. Don't worry about the six months thing. Once your medical results are uploaded on the immi site all is well. Ours took around one week from date of examinations to date received on immi site. The visa activation date requirement is one year from earlier of PCC or medicals.

Thanks EmNew makes sense. I think the six month thing is probably for some other visa types.

Hi Malikah, the Dr loads the results - you don't get access to those at all.

We were not even told anything about our results - when we asked we were told they are not allowed to say anything.

Some lucky people get some reassurance from the Dr that performs the test, but we had a stickler for the rules.

We just logged in daily to see when it was submitted and accepted on our immi account. For us it took around 5 days from date of tests to received by CO status on account.

So I contacted the Dr's office at Tygervalley, they were extremely helpful.

I spoke to one of the assistants who called me back with the Dr's reply within minutes. If anyone else here has any queries I suggest trying them for guidance. :)

Hi Chips

We paid R3200 for the dr including the HIV test and we were 2 adults and 2 kids - if I recall correctly the kids were cheaper. For the chest x-Rays we paid R1400.

Hi,

Has anyone recently done their Medicals in Durban? If so, do you have the details of the doctors that provide this service and are recognized by immigration department?

Thanks

Hi all, does one have to wait for a case officer to to be assigned before you can gave your Medicals done it can it be once the initial visa is lodged ahead of time? Apparently we need a HAP number first before we make the doc appointment?

Hi roadandtrack

You can get a HAP number as soon as you apply and pay for your visa application.

It is automatically generated, you just need to complete the forms online and print out the documents.
