Fish
I thought the living away from home allowance was removed for people on 457 visas ?It does seem a very low salary for an experienced IT specialist in Sydney...right to be cautious. Remember to ask whether the salary includes "super" or not.
CorneWagemaker
So what is the difference between super being included or not? Is it paid by the employer when it is not included?
dlmonnink
So what is the difference between super being included or not? Is it paid by the employer when it is not included? The employer pays over you tax/super for you as far as I understand. If it's included in the price then you need to work out what your super would be and minus it from the package to see what you would be living off every month. Sunnyskies
The employer is obliged to hand over 9.5% of your pay to the chosen superfund. Usually the 9.5% is included in the amount stated to be your gross annual income, just as tax is. But sometimes an employer will say your annual income plus super. Remember super is not included in your taxable income up to $25,000 pa in super payments and provided you earn below $300,000 pa.
SurferMan
Hi there HKing,I am in IT and I will tell you that is far too low for a Cisco security specialist. You should be looking at $120K-$180K, incl. of Super. In my line of work in SAP if you took a perm job you should be getting 130-220K per annum. on contract in SAP it would be around as low as $ 215k per annum all the way to up $500K. Average is $ 275-300K.

Nev
I have been keeping on hte developer job market for the 3 and a bit years i have been in auz, and can agree with the IT numbers they have there, as a general they are pretty spot on.I suspect that when you are new and starting over you will have to start a few pegs down, but once you have a few years of local experience you can look at those numbers as a fair guideSurfer is in the SAP world, so i will take a flyer that he thinks they are too low
HansaPlease
In my experience... they should bloody pay SAP consultants less!! :p
Sassyninja
They are similar to another survey I found... http://au.hudson.com/portals/au/documents/Salary%20Guides/SalaryTables2015-Aus-ICT.pdf I'm going by the average. Here is a helpful tool to work out net salary too.. http://www.paycalculator.com.au/Just sharing my research, hope it helps.

SurferMan
They were way too low for my tastes. Base rate would be $175 an hour, up to $375 an hour. I am also selective about the projects I take on as a rule. they need to challenge me and I need to learn something new and also be able to mentor juniors.@Nev, spot on!@hansa, I agree with some SAP consultants are useless. I am not one of them! :PI have a good track record, >15 successful SAP implementations/upgrades. Almost a billion dollars in projects. I have been very fortunate and been around some really talented people who have helped me get to that level of success. Sassyninja
@surferman and i thought those rates sounded good. where abouts are you living?
SurferMan
Hey Sassy,I am currently in Perth, but get these in Melbourne, Wellington, Sydney etc as well. That said the rates are coming down as mining goes off the boil in Perth.

Some SA friends who went over on 457's and 190's are earning above those brackets, but keeping in mind that's in NSW.I've also generally found through networking, that while they're mostly accurate, they are a bit conservative (not taking experience into consideration).Appreciate the post.

SurferMan
I would say anything over 15K a month is good.
Heymanse
Mmmm, you guys are definitely in the right industry earning that kind of money. You are truly blessed. I know they say "Money's not everything" but it sure makes life a lot easier sometimes. Spare a thought for those of us who earn less than $40 an hour. It's rough going (especially in Sydney), but somehow we manage. Where there's a will, there's a way.
SurferMan
Wow,$40 an hour. In SAP (IT) the base rate would be around $165/hour. Up to $250/275/hour. Which is good money as far as I am concerned. I do invest a lot to keep my skills cutting edge too.
