JK in Brissie
In Aus, the wine is "aged" and old people are "the aged". In UK and SA, old people are "the Ay-jed" though wine is still aged. The noun is more correctly pronounced ay-jed.
Kit
This is a very amusing topic! I find the shortenings weird, like esky/brekkie/etc. The best I've heard is 'heckers' as a shortening of 'hectic'. And somehow 'chucking a tanty' is still funny to me.I despise the Haytch and others I can't put my finger on but find strange, an example is saying 'day' so that it sounds like 'die'. "Come to xyz store, where you get reel sigh-veengs every die!!" And some people in Bne seem to have an extra-nasal way of speaking LOL.I had a hard time explaining to people what our dog's breed was: Japanese Spitz (said 'spuhts' as SA accent dictates ) was not understood so I'd have to say 'speets' LOL
Donovan83
The SA accent has some funny stuff too. Like how eyes and ice sometimes comes out like "a r s e". It's the same accent where bike becomes baak, five becomes faav, etc.Hilarious things that people can misinterpret if you apply that accent:Would you like some ice in your wine?My eyes are itchyI should really stop rubbing my eyes. Please don't forget to pick up some ice cream on your way home!lol
Fish
...Another pet peeve is most Australians inability to understand a continent with different countries as in Africa if you show them a map they think the outline of the various countries are states. Had a discussion at work yesterday where I tried to explain the difference beween Zimbabwe and South Africa, middle aged guy thought we were just different states in the country of Africa. That's not an Australian thing, that's just ignorance
