Who's leaving?

Just a little bit of interesting information! My hubby has been offered a 457 VISA so he can start work on 1 September as our Permanent Residency will only come through Dec/Jan. The company who have employed him are one of the large companies in Australia who are situated country wide. With my hubby, an Engineering Technician, they have also employed 5 other people, all general electricians.

Some of the documentation we receive for the 457 is addressed to all of us as we are all being sponsored and so I can see who is being employed. Of all 6 people THIS company is sponsoring, my hubby is the ONLY white guy, the rest are black, namely Simphiwe, Mandla, Lungi, Sazi and Thabo.

I was really surprised because I never thought of our African trades people wanting to immigrate. This is a really scary picture as this means S.A is going to have NO tradesmen left if even our African fellow S.A's are leaving. From what I have read in the financial news there are very few youngsters studying for trades. Without tradesmen our country is going to fall apart!

Would be interesting to know how many more people know of black fellow South Africans immigrating to Australia. I know quite a few Indians that have made the big move but the only African people that I know that have left have gone either to the U.K or U.S.A.

Interesting or what?

Hi Colton,

Very interesting! Do you know if this company is looking for more Electricians?, I happen to know one already with PR - through his spouse's application (they are still in RSA) currently looking for a job in Australia? So it would mean they can come over at a drop of a hat without sponsorship?

Cheers

Will ask hubby to find out. Has your friend searched the net ,there are hundreds of jobs available for electrical experienced guys in all levels. Hubby is in high voltage so his is a little more specialised but even so just about every job he applied for he was offered the position. We eventually had to stop applying, unheard of in South Africa! :ilikeit: I cannot see your friend being unable to find work, electricians are in VERY high demand. He will have his pick of where to live and who to work for I guarantee.

Thanks Colton,

They are looking - Just thought I could help out if I knew of something from my side, sometimes helps if you know the company is looking for more Saffer's especially if they had a good experience, even if they had to sponsor them. In his case they wouldn't have to sponsor and I guessed it would be less complicated for them (and the company)

Cheers

Hallo C'bug..I am assuming your friend has had his trade assesment done? I can be wrong but even if he does have PR on his spouse's visa he will need to have that done. But also he wont need a sponsor. If he has PR he can start tomorrow if they say they have a job for him and his trade recognition has been done. Also ...I have seen plenty of ads for electricians...has he tried careerone or some online job seeking tool?
