Hi All

New to the forum. Decieded to do it can't stay here any more. Taking my wife and son to a new life. Have paid deposit to migrartion agent and trying to start my TRA (very confusing)

I'm a fitter and turner by trade and appling for a skilled 176.

Does any one have a sample referance letter I can use as a template so we go to old companies once and get it right? This will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum, and all of the best with your visa application process.

I've just been working on those myself, and have narrowed down the essentials that need to be on the letter, I think!

On a company letterhead / company stamped letter:

- department

- company full name

- company's address, postal and physical

- direct superior's full name

- tel and fax numbers

- direct email address

- date (and don't let them get too old - 3 months)

"Work reference"

For: - Paul ...

Post held: ..... very specific and not generic

From: date to date

Previous post in same company?

Qualifications that you hold / registrations that allow you to be a .....

5 main duties undertaken:

(very important)

Contact person whom they can verify this with. Expect that they will contact someone and ask about you, give them all the contact details you can to make this easy for the Aus side people.

Signed off, officially. A short and to-the-point letter, emphasis on roles and duties, including qualifications and experience that are essential / a bonus.

This is an extract that says something similar:

• Certified copies of your work references for any positions held during the relevant

• period. Your work experience references must meet the following requirements:

o - the reference should show the official letterhead of the company or

o government department providing the reference

o - the letterhead should indicate clearly the full address of the company and

o any telephone, fax numbers, email and website addresses

o - the name and position of the person authorised to sign the employment

o reference should be typed or stamped below that person's signature

o - the direct contact number of the person writing the reference should be

o included in the letter

o - the letter should indicate the exact period of employment, including whether

o permanent or temporary, full or part time, position/s held, the main five (5)

o duties undertaken, and the salary earned – positions should not be described

o by generic titles (for example, research officer) but according to the nature

o of the duties undertaken (for example, research chemist)

• - a payslip from your current employment should also be included – this is especially

• important for applicants working in government departments. Other documents

• which may assist you in evidencing your work experience claims could include, but

• are not limited to:

• contracts

• pay slips

• tax returns

Hope this helps,

TereMel

Hi Teremere

Thankyou very much.

I am going to try and put my first one together tonight. Hopfully I don't pick up problems at the company when I ask them to sign.

This has all become so real now since we paid our deposit. Before it was just talk and now have to do

Sorry , Teremel not Teremere

That is so true. We only got going recently ourselves. The difference is immediate, isn't it? It's as though we see things differently now, and there are precious few decisions we make now that aren't affected by this one, especially anything requiring expenditure.

All the best with your new adventure,

Mark

Also very important that all the ref's must be in chronological sequence, down to a day, to show your work experience and continuity.

What happens if you left the industry in between?

I don't know about non-IT stuff, but they all probably apply similar rules to assessments.

In my case I had to have at least 8 years of IT (not continuous, but in total), but to claim additional work experience points for my skill, I had to work in that at specific field for last 24 months, and more specifically last 12 for MODL. Hmmm., all a bit confusing  , but I'm sure it won't be long before one of the forumites gives you exact answer...
