For those of you familiar with the Midmar Mile in South Africa, here is Australia's version, the annual MACQUARIE BIG SWIM, which is traditionally held on the Sunday closest to the Australia Day public holiday. The next swim, in season 2007-08, will be on Sunday, January 27, 2008. Start time is 10:00 am at Palm Beach, Sydney. Entry fee is $30.

The course runs for about 2.7 km. It starts in front of the Palm Beach Pavilion, and then runs virtually straight out from Palm Beach, parallel to the coastline, around Little Head and into the centre of Whale Beach.

Anyone in Sydney keen to join me in making a splash here? Looks like fun!
