Hi all,

I am also on the SAKiwis site, am actually an engineering recruiter from New Zealand, now resident in Brisbane. I recruited so many SA's into NZ jobs that lots became friends, (a mate ex- Jo'burg convinced me to move to Brisbane when he moved here, I had got him a job in NZ too a few years earlier)

As a recruiter I got annoyed with so many NZ immigration agents charging heaps to 'help' people when I was doing a lot of exactly the same stuff for free, and faster, just to secure jobs for my candidates. I found I could help a few people by joining sites like this. Information is free and should be shared.

Unfortunately legally can not do the same immigration advice in Australia, but am more than happy to help people escape SA and do my best to get them into jobs over here - side benefit is I sometimes make friends and obviously get paid for my work too.

I only do engineering and technical roles, although the company I work for does have an architectural unit, office support, and will be opening an IT recruitment division. We have offices in Brisbane, Perth and Singapore. And I maintain contact with many of my old NZ clients.

I am finding Australian Employers are becoming more reluctant to take on migrants - at the moment it seems to be a timing issue - Aust immigration just took 10 weeks to approve a 457 visa for one of my chilean candidates (Acoustic engineer) and many companies do not want to wait that long.

If I can help an SA's find a job in Australia, or perhaps with old clients in New Zealand, please contact me.

keep well

Hi Carey

Welcome to the site. I am a South African and we are wanting to immigrate to Australia. We are in the process of getting all the paper work together and goodness it takes long. To get a passport takes 3 months !!!!!!.

I am in the recruitment business in SA and I specialise in the hospitality industry. I was initially in the industry and found a niche in the market for someone that understands the industry so that is how got here. My hubby is in the office automation industry so if you know someone in Oz looking for that and willing to sponsor maybe on a RSMS (857) that would be awesome.

Anyway keep well and happy placing you are doing an amazing job.

Nicki (Hope to meet up soon) :)

Carey,

When you say that Australian employers are not too happy with immigrants you are mere referring to the time span they have to wait in order to sponsor someone? In your opinion what is the reaction to job applicants who go over on their own steam (Perminant Residence) and begin applying once in Australia?

Hi Carey,

Welcome to this forum! I hope you know what you just let yourself in for, given the number of people looking for 457's (myself included!) :ilikeit:.

Every little bit helps, so we really appreciate your willingness to help. Especially since that nasty little piece of legislation which kind of knocked the IT 457 sponsorships into a cocked hat (tho I can completely understand why they did it, it doesn't mean I have to like it! ).

John.

I have found that if your skills are in demand and employers are able to sponsor they will sponsor and are aware of the process however a friend recently had his offer of employment revolked because he couldn't get his act together in SA (re passports, certificates etc). The company waited 8 months and then gave up.

If you are seeking sponsorship (457 visa) you need to have your information ready and passports valid. Make it clear to the company sponsoring that you have all your papers ready and give them a time frame. If you tell them you have to wait for the house to sell or something that might put them off initially.

Even if you are only planning on moving a year or two down the track there is no harm in getting unbridged certs etc now.

Good Luck

My husband is a qualified motor mechanic and we've lodged our application (136 PR) in February 2007. He applied for a job on one of the many job finding sites (even though they stipulate that only people with Australian or New Zealand residency may apply) for a motor mechanic job at a very reputable company that were seeking to fill several mechanic jobs. I got back an e-mail yesterday where the guy from the specific company posed the question "R U planning on moving to Australia?" I was bouncing up and down because in my eyes, it seemed like a positive thing. I e-mail him straight away telling him that everything was in order and the application was lodged and when approximately the PR visa will be granted (hopefully February/March 2008).

I'm holding thumbs for him to come back with some more positive input! :P

Greetings Carey!

Welcome to the forum!!! I'm also a newbie and the knowledge I've gained so far has been invaluable!!!

Thanks for being so willing to help us Saffers escape!

Good luck in Brisbane! My brother is on the Gold Coast and absolutely LOVES it there. We're heading for Sydney first cos that's where hubby's sponsored job is. But we're hoping to be in Brisbane within the next couple of years.

Cheers,

Mandy

Hey Carey

Have fun on the site, I hope to meet some of these wonderful people that have given so much time and info.

Hi from a total noobie,

We have just started our whole process. We are looking to go over to Melbourne on a sponsored visa. The company will sponsor visas for our family. What is the next step ? I don't know a thing about his whole process.

This site is wondelfull with all the info but I battle to find out excatly which documents and forms to have ready.

I see there are medical, police etc stuff that needs to be done. I want to create a list with all the things that needs to be done so that I can keep track of them.

EISH where to start?
