Guest rika
hIDoes anyone know what the process,or requirements are for electricians to be able to get employment in NSW?Hi, my husband is an electrician and we are in NSW. What we know is that after your qualifications are approved by the TRA you must take a course at TAFE. 9968, I think. There is about 19 modules and will take you more than a year to complete. It is terribly expensive if you're on a 457. So rather do it if you have PR. It's very difficult to get your lisence in NSW.Hope this helps
Gavin and Chantell
Thank you for the reply...Are they allowed to come across and work-maybe with a licensed electrician while they are in the process of obtaining a license? Or are they not allowed to work at all?The company I work for is really struggling to get electricians within Australia. We have been advertsiisng in Australia for over three months now,and they have asked me to investigate what is involved in bringing electricians across from South Africa.I told them I knew it was difficult, however, they asked me to get as much information as possible because we are not having any success within Austrlia anyway,so have nothing to lose... Guest rika
Hi, I think it's best if you contact Fair Trading. We had no problem coming over as there is such a shortage of electricians in Aus, especially rural Aus. My husband does maintenance work, mainly, but also electrical work for they have an electrical engineer on site. NSW has the most red tape regarding electrical lisences of all the states. It's very frustrating, but hopefully worth it in the long run!!

Guest rika
Hi, the tel no is 133220 or www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/building. The tafe course is 9968 Electrical Wiring Certificate iii. Maybe you can contact them as well and find out how expensive on which visa and how long it will take.
