Pippa
Hi Everyone,We are flying to Brisbane on Sunday, 19 August 2007 and will be arriving on Monday, 20 August 2007 . Almost everything is planned and in order, but I am just afraid that one of us gets sick and urgently need a doctor… We will still be covered by Discovery for the first 3 months, but won’t know where to go… Do you perhaps know of a good GP (preferably South African) in Brisbane? Other thing, can one see a specialist directly or must one first see your GP before seeing a specialist?I will appreciate any help .Many thanks.Pippa! Dedrei
Groetexx
row
Hi PippaWe arrived just over two months ago, and have had only 2 weeks go by when one of us has not needed to go to a doctor....!!! (so, if you need a run down of the doctors north of Brisbane, let me know )We were also covered by our SA medical aid to start with, but signed up asap with a private medical care here. We chose a pretty basic cover and it is not too expensive.I have found some really good GP's in Brisbane - no South African's yet, but most are really good and thorough!I think most of the time you need to see a GP before you can get to see a specialist, but the up side of that is that they often get you an earlier appointment. If you are coming on PR, get your medicare card sorted out asap and you can claim back part of the doctors fee, or go to a doctor who bulk bills and then you wont pay anything.Hope this helps a bit!!See you in Brisbane. Springbok
I am just afraid that one of us gets sick and urgently need a doctor…Bring a couple of these guys along, that's what I did:Available at your local pharmacy, just drink 1 once a day and you won't get sick.If you start feeling cold/flu symptoms, drink 2 immediately.Great stuff this Viral Guard! Katryn
clarebear
Hi PippaHaven't found any south african GPs yet, but have seen 6 or 7 at two practices on the north side and been very impressed with almost all of them. Once you're here you can test-drive them until you find someone you're happy with.Have a safe trip and we'll see you soon!Clare
