Hey there,

So we arrived safely and got a place to stay, a car , all the bits and pieces to settle and are now ready to enjoy it. So far it has gone very well for us. Brisbane is alot bigger then we imagined. We are staying on the south East side near Wynnum. Are there any other SA's nearby we have young kids and would love to meet up to chat .

I am at home with my 3 year old for now. My 7 year old is in school from 8.45 to 2.45. Quite a long day compared to Durban days!

Getting a duplex was not as bad as we thought however the agents ....... well no comment!

Some things which we were wondering if other people felt the same?

Bring your household if you can afford it , setting up is not cheap. And clothes and linen seem expensive.

Enjoy your Savannah dry you do not get it here! :ilikeit:

Shop around for options it pays to negiotiate. Schooling is debateable Private or government (real eyeopener).

Expect the unexpected!

Anyway that's our 2 dollars worth!

Regards

Hey Fishermanswife

So glad to hear you are there safe and sound and happy!

We have just finished all the paperwork and all that's left is for agents to lodge for us. We are hoping to be there towards the third quarter of next year.

What do you mean the govt schools were a 'real eye opener' ? was it a surprise for better or worse?

Anyway, it's a fat load of good us people in durban responding to your post isn't it as the closest to socialsing we can do is chatting on the forum and that's a very sociable pass time indeed, really gets one out and about! :D

Welcome Fishermanswife!

If the need for a Savannah gets to great jump onto the Pacific Motorway and motor down to the Gold Coast.

take the Oxenford turnoff (about 35 minutes from Wynnum) and very close to the highway you will find SPRINGBOK foods. He has it all from Klipdrift to Savannah!

Then drive futher and take kids to Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary.Koalas, dingoes,VERY tame kangaroos. I was able to touch the joey in the pouch!Great inter active things with the kids. After that go to Currumbin Beach. Great outing for a Saturday.

Welcome again!

Hallo Fisherman's wife,

I also missed the old Savannah Dry and then I discovered Strongbow! It's also a cider and comes in a "dry" version aswell! I actually prefer them now to a Sav and they are a bit cheaper too! Look at your local BWS!

Cheers

Amanda

Also wondering about the schools.........

Hello there,

I think what was the the first surprise was the wear whatever goes with the uniform. Although there is a uniform it is not to strict . Although some kids swear quite a bit , they are generally quite respectful toward adults. The stand in a line quietly and enter parade(assembly) is non existant. However the education is of a high enough standard with alot of involvement from the parents. Perhaps I need to overlook the minor issues and concentrate on the broader picture. Bullying is mentioned up front and this did concern me as my daughter is very sensitive. I did notice a verbal confrontation in the school with a year 4/5 and it did not get physical. Just a bit of she said/she said......

Also you can go right in the school walk your child to the classroom and collect from the classroom. All in all she is happy thus far and we will have a look in the new year at her school work.

Hi FMW,

We will be in Brisbane 1 of these days, we should keep in touch as we have a 4year old son. I think it can be a good idea as he is very lonely, being the only child.

I'll get tips on school form u, seeing that you have already been through that.
