search phrase problem

Tracy

Question

Maybe I'm doing sometihng wrong, but I want to search for "cost of living".

I've tried the plus signs inbetween the words, no signs and " ".

I should be able to search for that specific phrase?

Thanks!

Tracy

Hi Tracy

The search function can sometimes be a hit and miss affair. I typed in "prices" got a few good hits, perhaps you can try that.

Unfortunately I do not think the search is really set up for a phrase search, mostly for independent words. If your first word does not work, try something similar!

I must admit our search function on our site is not the best.

Try this. Go to http://www.google.com and type the following

"cost of living" site:http://www.saaustralia.org

And click on search it will come up with quite a few topics.

For any future searches, just type the search words followed by site:http://www.saaustralia.org

Hope this helps

Cheers

The search function on this forum search for actual words/phrases in the posts. Eg. if someone makes a posts on how to earn big "bucks" in Australia and you search for "money" - that post will not come up in the results. People use acronyms, "slang" and such in their posts and unless you use that in your search, you will not find it.

Try the Afrikaans translation for words (even if you are English speaking - and visa versa) as someone might start a post on a topic in Afrikaans with a whole lot of helpful English answers etc.

Also, search for possible content Eg. topics on monthly budgets may not contain the word "budget" at all, but words like groceries, petrol, toll etc.....

If you've previously read an answer posted by a specific person and you cannot find it again, you can search for that person's posts and then sift through them - same applies if you like a specific person's advise and wish to read more on what they have to say....

If all else fails, post a question for help to find links on a specific topic - fellow forumites will help you find them. :ilikeit:
