Does having family in Australia help

ChrisH

Question

Probably a question for @TeeTMI

Is there a Permanent residency visa where you can get extra points for having a PR or citizen family member in Australia. Like a family sponsored skilled visa?

Hi Chris

Within the skilled visas there is the Subclass 491 'Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa' - which for a variety of (not all) occupations can be sponsored by an eligible relative.  The eligible relative must live in a 'designated area'.

This would provide the applicant 15 points towards the 491 visa.

Unfortunately we live in post code 4509 which seems to be excluded from the list.

I assume that is within the wider Brisbane metropolitan area which would not be included as a 'Designated area' bad luck.   Might they try QLD state sponsorship potentially as and when things open ?
