RRV

TamTam

Question

Hi

I’ve been in Aus for just over three months now and would like to apply for a RRV in case I need to get back to SA in a hurry (unwell mom). The tricky part is we haven’t been here for two years out of the past five.

What we would need to show in order for us to get that RRV or is it completely out of the question now? Hubby has permanent employment and we have a 12 month lease signed to show we are settled here.

You don't need a RRV until the 5 year limit on your PR visa expires. If you then don't have citizenship after those 5 years you'll need a RRV.

From the Home Affairs website:

Normally, as a permanent resident, your visa will let you leave and come back intoAustralia for up to five years from the date it was granted. After five years, if you want to leave and return to Australia as a permanent resident, you must have a  Resident Return visa.

This is assuming though that you came over to Australia pronto after your visa was granted and didn't spend some of your "visa time" still in RSA or some other country. If you didn't get to Oz quick smart and are close to the 5 year mark despite only being in Oz for 3 months then I suggest you contact one of the agents on here for their advice.

Thanks I’ll do that. We spent much of the five year period outside of Aus.

you can apply for RRV online using your immi-account. If you haven't been here the 2 year out of 5 years then you need to add documentation like - proof of accommodation, school enrollment, job confirmation with leave approval etc, anything that proves you are here permanently and that you have settled in Australia. They then issue you with a one year visa. When applying at the moment it is quoting 71 days to 5 months waiting time!  Once you have been here the 2 years then they issue your rrv for a longer period, usually another 5 years.
