Starbucks
Hello, We received our visa grant letter on 31 May 2018. Family of five. It says the grant of the visa includes the following visa condition: ' 8504 - The holder must enter Australia as the holder of the visa to which the condition applies before a date specified by the Minister'. Then on the grant letter for each family member it specifies: For first entry, arrive by: 8 August 2018. Does this mean the main applicant must arrive by 8 August 2018 for first entry and no later? If not, then by which date if visa was granted on 31 May 2018? Is it necessary for every family member on the visa to go to Australia for first entry, or will the main applicant be sufficient, to activate the visa? Thank you
Piet1234
Was this a 189 Visa? Everyone who gets the visa (ie the whole family) need to arrive prior to 8 August to activate it.

Tntaglia
Congrats on your visa! Yes, you will all have to get here by 8 August to activate the visa otherwise it is no longer valid - but of course that only needs to be a short trip, you can make the official move much later should you need to. Starbucks
Thank you Tntaglia How do you read the following: This condition requires that an initial entry into Australia by each visa holder be made before the date specified in the visa grant notice provided to you when your visa was granted. General Skilled Migration is aware that you and/or your family members who were granted a visa as part of your application may not comply with this condition. Failure to comply with visa conditions can render a visa liable for cancellation under the Migration Act 1958 and visa holders are encouraged to make their first entry by the initial entry date. General Skilled Migration, however, has no objection to visa holders travelling to Australia in breach of condition 8504 and will not seek to cancel a visa where the only reason for doing so would be the breach of this condition. Piet1234
http://www.australiavisa.com/immigration-news/condition-8504/ So in short, if you do not enter by that date, your visa is LIABLE for cancellation, but it is not an absolute and is at the Aus immigration services discretion. But still, after doing all this effort I can't see anyone wanting to take that kind of risk...
Ta2Bryan
I remember one of the Agents on the forum advising someone that you can apply for an extension based on the time allocated being too short to get your affairs in order. Maybe try go that route?
Piet1234
I applied for an extension a few weeks ago, but it is like emailing a black hole... Maybe you will be more successful on a 190 than I was on a 189.
LM17
our activation period was also very short -- We just made it a short family LSD trip - expensive but what can you do
Riekie
Unless you obtain a prior extension, I would not risk it by missing the deadline. If money is a factor, then maybe consider making it permanent on your first entry so you won't have the flight costs twice. Once our visas were granted we were out there so fast, you could hear the doors slamming!... 😅

ChrisH
14 hours ago, Starbucks said: Thank you All Wedding in Italy end of August , flights booked and paid long ago. This is the dilemma. Have you considered phoning up the airline and finding out if you could change your tickets to fly out of Australia?
Riekie
If you can't change your tickets then I'd approach the immigration department and ask for an extension on your arrival date and providing evidence of your flight bookings etc and also evidence that you tried to change the flights to depart from Australia (so maybe email the airline and have the response in writing). Hope you get it sorted.
