173 visa vs 143 visa

Hi I am new to the forum.  Great forum and info

What is the feeling of my learned friends. Hubby and I are 62 and 63 and want to move to Melbourne or Sydney where our children are sooner rather than later. Does anyone have an indication on how long the 173 visa takes to issue and is there enough time to then lodge the 143 permanent visa once we are in AU's.

These two visas are currently processed at a similar rate - the DIBP are currently processing applications for these visas that were lodged around Feb 2015.
