TamTam
Hi all I know this has been discussed several times before (whether to pack wooden furniture). I have seen on the forum that most wooden furniture is fine as long as it doesn't show signs of insect infestation (like borer holes). I have a gorgeous dining room table made of railway sleepers and it has a fair amount of sentimental value to me. It has been indoors for at least 5 years and there are DEFINITELY no insects. That said, I certainly don't expect border patrol and emigration to take my word for it. So two queries - is taking it going to potentially hold up my container once it arrives and what is the charge to get an item fumigated there / or destroyed? It may have sentimental value but I am not going to schlep a tremendously heavy table all the way to Oz only to have to pay for it to be destroyed / hold everything up. Cheers for now TamTam
TeeTMI
You might look at the Australia customs web site and make contact with them directly. For many things there is a fumigation option they should be able to provide you with an estimated cost.
