KMPhysio
Good day. My wife an I, and close family memebers have been discussing this move for a long time. Seems the decision has been made to make the move, but it's scary just thinking of it!!! I currently work as a Physiotherapist but have a PGCE(Post graduate qualification in Education) as well. My wife is a Physiotherapist and recently qualified as a Pharmacist. Seems like we have a lot of degrees.....where it's going to come handy only God knows.. Lets see what the future brings. Thanks for the valuable information on this forum. Always reassuring to know others are in similar positions. Regards Koobeshan

SimpleSimon
Until you do the necessary studies in Australia your wife could be a sales product support specialist for a company supplying medicines and medical devices. You could be a personal trainer.

SimpleSimon
Hi @KMPhysio, I teach a module for a M.Pharm course in health sciences faculty at UTS. I also work in pharmaceuticals and medical devices industry. I don’t know the requirements to become registered as pharmacist or physioterrorist in Australia with a South African degree. However, I suspect it involves a few years of study at Australian university. I do know that there is an excess of pharmacists in Australia and community and hospital pharmacy pay is not great. However, medical device companies like to hire professionals as sales support specialists as they can go into theatre and help surgeons use their products. Pay for those roles is very good and they’re interesting jobs. I think both you and your wife are well equipped for this.
TamTam
The best advice I was given was Be Patient - finding work could take several months Be Flexible - be willing to take several steps back in your field or to go into something entirely different Be Entrepreneurial - well that's self explanatory
KMPhysio
@SimpleSimon those jobs sound very exciting. It's just sad that I'm currently completing my Masters in Health Sciences in South Africa. I would not have started the studies if the decision was made earIiar, but never the less I will complete it. I will use my teachers degeree to get in and then take whatever I can in Austrlia. Is it wise to try and get registered with the Australian Physiotherapy council and Pharmacy council while in South Africa?
wonderer
I think you will have to register with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) http://www.physiotherapyboard.gov.au/Registration/Overseas-Practitioners.aspx I'm not a physio and not sure how it works but for some of the other professions it is a long, painful and expensive exercise - but it can be done (a bit like visa's) I'm sure you can do part of the registration from RSA. KMPhysio
@DaleenOh no, that's a terrible experience! I hope you are successful on the next visit to HA!!! I can understand your frustration, applied for unabridged marriage certificate in September 2017, still not processed, after 3 visits to HA! Dix
Dealing with the institutions here is going to be your first big pleasant surprise. I left without ever getting a marriage cert from HA after months. I submitted a handwritten one which the pastor glued into my old black dompas Getting here I got drivers licence & ID card within an hour from NSW service (a place clean & neat enough to have carpet!). A tax reg certificate in 3 days, via the post. Electricity connected on the morning I asked them to, internet connection same day
