MichaelM
Hi all, I'd like some feedback from anyone who has recently moved to or is living in Bundaberg or Bargara and how they found the job search, settling in, social issues, dislikes. My family and I are considering moving there as we are looking for a lifestyle change. We've been there before and really like it. Also received a very positive review from a friend of a friend living there. After having spent 5 years in Melbourne we're looking for a more laid back lifestyle. We've also visited a few potential schools and day care centres for our children to get an idea of whats on offer. In terms our occupations we're experienced in child care and finance/business management. Any feedback would would be appreciated.
new2forum
hi, areas like gladstone, bundaberg, harvey bay are quite scenic and laid back. a far cry from the rat race in capital cities. only issue with health care providers in those regions is that there is no bulk billing even if you have a medicare card. you have to pay around $50 to see a GP. specialist services are also hard to come by, with referrals done or long wait times. MichaelM
Thanks for the information new2forum. Have you lived in that area?
new2forum
Hi yes, lived in gladstone for 16 months, lived in mount isa for 6 months and but bundaberg for 6 months all for work. In terms if work, engineering/ technical has slowed down , but there's always some positions available. As nice as these areas are, cost of medical care is a worry in comparison to a capital city. Paying $50 odd for a 5 minute conversation to get painkillers is disheartening. Social problems include vans or utes with loud exhausts, tattoos, rough attitudes with drinks etc. of course nothing like hillbrow back in the day, but if a rant had to be made that would be it.
