Melb2017
Hi everyone We are in the process of packing up the house, and trying to decide what to take along and what to leave behind. Does anyone know if SA booster seats can be used in Australia? Our kids are 3 and 5 so out of the harnessed "baby/toddler" car seats and now using the car seats that basically raise the child to the correct position to use a seat belt and have supports so the car seat runs correctly over the shoulder etc. I know there are lots of regulations around car seats that differ between countries, but just wondering if we would be able to use our booster seats or whether it would be best to leave them behind? Thanks so much in advance.
GKatherine
Hi, not sure about the specifics of the booster seats, but kids until the age of 4 should still be in a carseat in Australia. Only after 4 may they use the booster seat. Have a look at https://www.dss.gov.au/our-responsibilities/settlement-services/beginning-a-life-in-australia Good luck with the packing! CazK
We were also trying to work out what to do with the carseats. Friends of ours in Melbourne advised us that neither our South African carseats would meet regulations, as my 2 year old's one needs a top tether and the piece at the back where the seat belt slides through - ours doesn't have a top tether. My other son's booster won't work as it doesn't have the sticker that says its approved in Aus/NZ. So now we are leaving both seats behind and borrowing upon arrival until we buy new ones. 189inprocess
HI Melb2017, We bought ours on an Aus online website before doing our activation trip and had them delivered to a friend, who then met us at the airport and we put them into the hire car and when we returned to RSA we brought them back with us. NoahWi
It is better to get new one in order to be sure that it meets regulations.
ChrisH
Its all about this little sticker: You could buy the exact same car seat in SA and it wouldn't have the sticker on it. We left our stuff in SA and just bought a baby seat at Target for $169.
