TeeTMI
Skilled Independent 189 Visa Age Change - as of 1st July. The government have amended the legislation for the 189 visa as of 1st July the maximum age at time of application will reduce from <50 to less than 45 years of age (ie maximum age will be 44). This is a time of visa application requirement. So will impact applicants who are invited to apply on or after the 1st of July, 2017, or who been issued with a visa invitation before the 1st of July, 2017 and who have not applied for the visa before the 1st July. If you will be aged 45 or over as of the 1st July then and you have an application in the pipeline or are invited prior to the 1st July you should aim to have your application submitted before the 1st July. NOTE: There is a transitional provision in respect of lowering the maximum age for Subclass 189 visa applicants. If an applicant is applying for a 189 visa on or after 1 July in response to an invitation given before 1 July, they must apply within the period stated in that invitation to make a valid application. HadEnoughofJuju
Any news on the 190 and 489 age limits?
TeeTMI
The piece of new legislation just refers to the 189 visa. I would not want to speculate.
TakeItOnTheChin
This probably does not have too much affect on the 189 application process, it would be very difficult getting a 189 skilled visa once you are over 45 anyway, because you would have lost all age points and could not get 60 points without it.......just my opinion so no real change to the 189. If they dropped the age requirements for the 190 and 489 then there would be more repercussions for those needing the extra 5 or 10 points because of age.
