Partner Visa - potential changes

Recommended Posts

The DIBP are looking at some processing changes to Partner Visas.
The current processing times have extended massively over recent years are ranging between 16-23 months.  DIBP are under resource constraints given the high application rates, the increase in onshore applications and combating fraud in the Partner Programme.
Some of the previous changes to other visa pathways impacted on this visa, and given the recent changes we might expect even more applicants to look to the Partner visa now that some other pathways are closing.

Changes anticipated include:
- an increase of the time required between applying for the first (temporary) and second (permanent) residence stage from 2 years to 3 years.
- a separate application fee for the second stage processing

Already in progress
- character checks for sponsors
- July 2017 Visa Application Charge to increase to $7,000
