Motorcycle Licence

Hi, I have a A1 South African Motorcycle Licence which means its a valid licence for a motorcycle upto 125CC. Would I be able to convert this to a type R licence in Australia?

Or is it worthwhile to go for my licence in SA for  a type A licence? I currently only have a learner's for a type A, which expires just before my planned move to OZ?

Thank you

I'm not sure an A1, which is really inline with the A2 South African motorcycle learners, can be converted. I do know that a full licence in Aus will take a morning with an examiner and about 600 Aus dollars, so its definitely cheaper to get a full A licence in South Africa. Also in Aus you can't go for learners one day and full licence the next, I think its a few months mandatory gap.

Here are the licence codes applicable in Australia. Some riveting reading for your spare time.

You'll find the codes and regulations will be similar in all the different states.

Do you need to have the licence in SA for x number of years before you can convert it?

Not sure but i think i remember something like that, if so you may be wasting your time getting it there if you are coming over soon
