Having haunts

Well, we are now two years in. Just back from a super Sunday with great friends, visiting some favourite haunts in the Yarra Valley and Sassafras - it has been quite easy to feel at home in this amazing city and we are now settled enough to have haunts, places to go back to!! We are enjoying Melbourne, Australia and the winter so much it is actually hard to find some down time at the moment as there is always somewhere great to go and some place amazing to see.

Ok, we did cheat with the friends and imported ours from CT, which did help enormously ?. Having said that, we have all been getting out there and meeting people and socialising outside our comfort zone and we are building up a social circle.

just wanted to drop a comfort line to all those just settling in, feeling very lost, very alone, wondering if this has all been a horrible mistake - hang in there. It is so worth while.

Sassafras is beautiful!

the kids enjoyed the train trip there. Stunning.

And so close to Melbourne.

I miss that now...

Only saw this post now - we're the friends that were 'imported'

We're closing in on our one year anniversary next Wednesday, and am happy to report that we're gathering a list of favourite places too. Melbourne is like an Ogre / Onion ( Shrek reference, in case people think I have lost it  ) - layered - and we love peeling back the layers bit by bit to discover more, but there are already some favourite layers :

The Dandenongs ( Sassafras / Olinda / Belgrave ) etc is a favourite return to destination. I never tire of the beauty, the quaintness of the towns etc and discovering new gems there. Today was an outing to Cloudehill Gardens - so beautiful, and will definitely return to see it unfold across all 4 seasons. Love Sherbrooke Forest and the walks there, love ambling down the road through Sassafras and pottering around the quaint shops along it.

Too scared to return to Olinda ( but dying too ), as that will hurt the purse too much - stunning,  reasonably priced decor shops!!!

We have our go-to coffee / breakfast spot in Hampton where we live. Makes us feel more like a local to have 'our local'

Yes, there are days when we also feel lost, but having established some roots and having a few favorite haunts to hideaway in, has really helped us feel more settled.
