Boy meets girl

Question

Hi,

Wondering what happens if you have your 189 visa and in the period between attaining your visa and moving to Aus, you meet someone that you end up marrying. Do they automatically get a permanent residence visa too if you marry before moving to Aus or must they apply for their own visa?

Thanks in Advance.

I would think it would be similar to being in a defacto relationship where you would have to prove that you have been in a relationship for at least 12 months. I would contact immigration and find out the exact rules regarding your circumstance.

In certain cases just having a marriage certificate isn't enough and you'd have to provide proof that you're in a committed relationship.

The case officer will want you to prove that you didn't sell your partner a visa by running to home affairs to get a marriage certificate but that the relationship is real and ongoing. I'd definitely talk to an agent for advice.
