merowig
Hi, We are set to do the big move to Adelaide in November of this year, and have started off by looking at car rentals. We're a relatively big family (5 people) with bigger kids, so a bigger car is preferable, but have found that the cheapest rentals are in the region of R30k for four weeks for a suitably sized SUV (that is, if we include reasonable insurance)! I think we need to find other options, like renting for only a few days and using that time to find a second-hand smaller car to buy. Specifically for Adelaide, does anybody have experience of buying a second-hand car? If so, do you have any tips in regard to make/model and/or dealer? If we buy a car we're obviously going to have to be sorted with a license too (which I believe is quite expensive) - any tips on getting that done relatively quickly and without hassle? Thanks, Eric
Frandri
Merowig, We used http://www.drivemycar.com.au/adelaide/20to/ when we arrived in Perth and a decent size vehicle cost us about $ 1200 for a month. ( if you rent from them for a shorter period you will still save quite a bit. ) Rental is directly from the owner of the vehicle and we arranged with him to meet us at the Airport. We bought a used Toyota from the Dealer about a week after we arrived and they did the transfer etc using our rental address, passport and South African license. Cant help you with dealers in Adelaide unfortuanatly. Hope you come right.
