IELTS issue

Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem with my IELTS exam, I was informed last week that I am forced to work on the same day as my IELTS exam and it falls in the 5 weeks cancellation period so they cannot help me, the test is on the 21st of May 2016.

I have send them the email that the MD sent me regarding the particular day and obviously I am at a dilemma now, can anyone give me advice or help me with the test issue?

Regards,

How can you be "forced" to work? What sort of work do you do that such a thing is possible?  NOTHING is that important that you can't take a day's leave and any company that doesn't have plans in place for when people are on leave are not being managed properly.

Tell your boss you have an appointment with a specialist that day and it can't be moved.  Yes it's a language specialist but he doesn't need to know that.

It is a work function/workshop ALL employees are invited and I told him that I am busy that they and it will cost me money to be at the function but nothing and the british council does not want me to reschedule. Can I maybe transfer the test date to someone who can and have them reimburse me or they pay the fee for the test?

since the registration involves supplying your ID I doubt you can transfer your booking to somebody else.  What's the worst that can happen if you tell your boss you just can't make it.  You had already taken the day off and made other plans.  Is it an actual work day or is it the weekend.  Your reply says that all employees are INVITED.  So decline the invitation with a regretful email that you won't be able to make it on this occasion and perhaps you can attend the next workshop at another time.  Perhaps find out from the workshop people whether you would be able to attend at another time so that you can go your boss with: this is the problem and here is my solution.  They can't MAKE you go to the workshop.  You have to decide how bad the fallout will be.  I mean what will your boss say if somebody (say you :P) is sick that day.  Life happens so what is his contingency plan for those who can't attend?

Your choices seem to be skip the workshop and go to your test or forfeit your booking and money and try again.
