Brisbane via Sydney: Where will you clear immigration?

Hi all

 

Off to Brisbane on Monday via Sydney on Qantas.  Looks like the Brisbane stretch is from the Domestic terminal.  Am I correct to say I will have to clear immigration at Sydney?  Will they check my bags through or do I need to collect them first and check in again at domestic departures?

When we did that two years ago, we needed to collect, clear customs, and recheck our luggage in Sydney. Flying Jhb->Syd->Bris
This was the reason given for why we could not book our luggage straight through.

Yes you will clear immigration & customs in Sydney. Also the terminals are quite far apart and we struggled to find the shuttle bus between international and domestic terminals. Make sure to check beforehand how to get to domestic. We missed the check-in for our domestic flight to Melbourne by 20 minutes and had to wait another 3 hours for the next available flight.
