Pensies
Hi all, For our LSD trip we found a place in Melbourne close to the CBD. If we want to look at schools etc in Sunbury, Ballarat etc, do we need a car in those areas or is public transport good in those areas ? and across Vic Bay for that matter? Thanks
RedPanda
It's a bit of a personal choice. Public transport will get you to most areas. But you will then have to explore them on foot if you don't have a rental car. Some people like this, others don't. We stayed outside the CBD and rented a car. On days we needed to do things in the CBD we took public transport and traveled on foot. On other days we explored the neighbourhoods and 'local' sights by car. Guest
I also agree with Red. You can definitely get around Melbourne without a car using the public transport system, and getting to all the major touristy places, but if you want to explore the several suburbs you are going to need a car. It might be a bit of a schlep and what could take 10 mins in the car could well take an hour on the trains etc. If you are in the CBD then maybe hire a car for a few days and go and see those areas you are interested in looking at, the rest of the time here use the transport system.
