Numb3rgirl
Hi all, I am a mathematician (just about done with a PhD in mathematical sciences) with experience lecturing at university level as well as working at a bank for almost 2 year now as a credit risk analyst. I also have some programming experience, with a SAS certification. If anyone known of a suitable opportunity it would be appreciated. Thanks!
Mara
@Numb3rgirl I would suggest you look at www.seek.com.au to see what is on offer. Also, it may be wise to google banks in Australia and check each one's website, they often have available jobs shown, or at least send them your cv and ask about jobs in your field. ottg
Check out the agriculture research industry. They often use mathematicians & statisticians for simulations and economic/science modelling. Unfortunately currently a moratorium has been placed on new appointments in the WA government but look at other states. This website ( besides there excellent articles) have 6 related jobs advertised http://theconversation.com/au/technology Now for an alternative approach. Climate weather modelling uses mathematicians all the time. Sometime ago I read about the climate changes skeptics and Dr David Evan's theory. When someone has 6 degrees (mostly engineering & mathematics) then you need to listen up. http://www.express.co.uk/news/science/611111/Former-government-expert-disproves-climate-change-and-says-world-will-soon-cool-down As he must be well connected in Australia so why dont you see what they up to and contact him....(or his wife) and ask a few clever questions you never know where this may lead too. http://sciencespeak.com/about.html And you can also try to contact his wife who has a few blogs and also well connected. http://joannenova.com.au/about/biog/ http://www.desmogblog.com/joanne-nova Oh....sorry forgot to mention....he makes his money out of the share market as mathematicians dont get paid well here - another tip! Hope if helps! Edited April 2, 2016 by ottg

Looks like it will suit your experience : http://careers.commbank.com.au/commbank/en/job/975485/risk-analyst-associate-analytics-reporting-institutional-business-banking http://careers.commbank.com.au/commbank/en/job/975485/risk-analyst-associate-analytics-reporting-institutional-business-banking Hell, over 100 jobs crop up if you enter "Risk Analysis" into their career search page : http://careers.commbank.com.au/commbank/en/search/?search-keyword=risk%20analysis&job-mail-subscribe-privacy=agree Type in "statistics" if you want a few more : http://careers.commbank.com.au/commbank/en/search/?search-keyword=statistics&job-mail-subscribe-privacy=agree And that is just one bank. Numb3rgirl
Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have already applied for many jobs at the banks, will hope for the best and keep looking. Brendan there might be a 100+ but only 7 of those are in Queensland and only remotely related to being an analyst so it's not that easy, but thanks anyway. TeeTMI
You might also look at the Australian Mathematics Society job ads http://www.austms.org.au/ Also worth remembering that Post Docs / Research Fellows get paid a decent (compared to many countries) salaries here.
