State Sponsored Visas and working for out of state company remotely?

BrendanH

Question

Hi,

I am moving to ACT on a 190 State Sponsored Visa. I understand that I need to live and work in the state. I have a potential opportunity to work for a company based in NSW remotely from my house in Canberra. Would this cause issues?

As most of the IT opportunities in the state require citizenship an opportunity like this could be extremely valuable but I do not want to do anything unethical or not in line with my obligations to the state.

Does anyone know how a fringe situation like this would go down?

Also interested in an answer here...

Further, has anyone gone through the process of requesting a release from the sponsoring state (WA) based on inadequate opportunities being available. How/What to do?

Contact your case officer and ask them if there are any issues with you working for an out of state company while still living in ACT. Secondhand info from forumites is a bit of a gamble.
