Any Agricultural Economist /Agricultural Consultants / Agriculture teachers out there?

Season's greetings from a forum-newbie in Durban!

I am glad to be a member of this wonderful forum and I must confess that going down-under (Oz) is also my dream! I am a qualified Agricultural Economist (BScAgricHons-Agric Economics ) , but I do not have any relevant Agricultural Economics working experience. However, I have six years of working experience under my belt ,working as a secondary school educator ( thanks to the Unisa PGCE qualification).

I would like to find out from the agriculturalists or other  professionals out there who have information with regards to agricultural jobs opportunities in Australia. I would like to also find out if the online TAE40110 programme will help to improve my chances of securing a job as an agricultural VET trainer and assessor.

My wife is a qualified Social Worker (BSW) with 4 years of social work experience and we have a 3.5 years old son. I will be very grateful to get any relevant information from this forum.

Thank you.

OliverCM, welcome to the forum, I hope you get answers to all of your questions here.  Unfortunately I cannot help you, but just wanted to remind you that this is the holiday period in Australia, to the end of January. Due to this, the forum, from Australian members, does get a bit quieter...

I searched and found some links for you that may start off your search:

Agricultural appointments:

http://www.agri.com.au/

http://au.indeed.com/Agricultural-Appointments-jobs

http://www.agcareers.com/agricultural-appointments-company-127759.cfm

Education: This one is a search engine for schools, if in the first search block you just enter the word Agri it will come up with a whole list of Agricultural Schools and you will have to pick them one by one, to check them out.

Hope this is of use to you.

Hi OliverCM,

I am also a qualified Agric.Economist. Like you I have not worked as one ,but the degree has indeed opened a lot of doors for me.

Register at www.agbizcareers.com.au , they will keep you up to date on available vacancies in the agric. sector .Australia has a vast and diverse agricultural sector and if you put your mind to it, you will succeed and find a vacancy that suits you.

Good luck

Hi, Phil.

It's nice to hear from a fellow Agric. Economist. I'll definitely go to the agbizcareers website and register with them.

Thank you.

Timing may be a bit of an issue as budget cuts prevent new appointments in agriculture. However agriculture is the next biggest export product after resources.

As you know resources is in a recession while agriculture projects start to receive research and development funding to improve & expand the value of production.

A few pointers. Look who are the sponsors and associates of the associations, groups, magazines. Most of them have positions for economists and agronomists.

While not a comprehensive list it will give some pointers how to view the hidden market.
