SDTCPT
I have been having a look to see what the online shopping is like in Aus. Here in RSA I mostly shop on Takealot or Loot (if I don't have to go into a physical shop to get something I try not to), but I can't find any similar type of shop in Aus. Maybe I have not stumbled upon it yet. I see that most of the shops (Coles, Woolies etc) do have a online presence and it looks like you can shop on Amazon.I would like to hear from some of you guys already in Aus, what sites you use and which ones to stay away from... Donovan83
I use eBay a lot, it's great. Items are usually sent through the normal postal service. I've bought various toiletries, electronic things and cycling gear online. I don't know if there's something similar to those web sites, but I've used wiggle.com.au for sports equipment before and they're quite good. monsta
A local boy once said to me.."We all shop online here...let me spell it for you. E... B...A...Y"eBay is considerabley cheaper than buying from the local shops. For example, a $15 HDMI cable is $5 delivered from eBay.If you want other things like groceries.. Coles will deliver for free if you spend over $100 and get it delivered on a Wednesday. The Wednesday slot fill up quickly. So place your order on a saturday and checkout. You can always ammend it after you have checked out. Checking out just guarantees you the delivery slot.If you have the financial will power, you can sign up for the Coles credit card and get cheap deliveries any day of the week.Oh and the Coles staff admit that people game the system. Someone in our area orders nothing but cans of cold drinks for their shop each Wednesday. We also get Coles to deliver the heavy or bulky items we don't want to carry. That's life in Aussie...learn to exploit the system
RYLC
I shop online for almost everything. Priceline for toiletries and cosmeticsDick Smith for electronicsTarget for kids clothesOfficeworks for stationeryColes for groceriesA local fruit and veg shop for a fresh delivery each week including meat, milk, breadThere is almost nothing you can't get online here from normal shops at the mall. Most have an online presence and you can go in or shop from home. I do almost all my Christmas shopping online and am on first name terms with the postie. Love love love it!Now this might blow your socks off: if I'm not home then postie or courier leave the parcel on the mat at the front door. Our property does not have a front fence and everything arrives safely. Edited November 9, 2015 by RYLC
Peterthe1
Check your prices when shopping on line. Prices vary depending on where you stay. The further out you stay from the big centres, the more expensive items can get. Transport costs are very high here. Price for a Jerry Can with Supercheap in Melbourne, $28, price in Rockhampton, $50.

monsta
Be carefull about Kogan. They deliver from a warehouse in Hong Kong (I think). So you will be waiting a while for your stuff.
Magenta
We use EBAY all the time. It is just so cheap. I recently ordered a new strap for my vivofit and it never arrived. Emailed the company and a new one was posted. You can get anything on Ebay. We love it! Recently my husband wanted to buy a tablet but it wasn't stocked in any of the Telstra stores. He ordered it online on a Saturday and it was delivered to the door on Tuesday. Too easy!
monsta
A lot of South Africans wouldnt know this.. Ecommerce is dying in South Africa. Delivering through the post office isn't reliable at all and using courier companies is expensive. In big cities like Sydney or Melbourne, the rent at the local shops is incredibly high. Add to that most of these shops have tiny warehouses that aren't really efficient. Only giant shops like Big W are large enough to have a big efficient warehouse. Our post office, Auspost is actively trying to be "powering online shopping". They recently bought a large parcel delivery company, Start track. They have to, revenue from delivery of envelope sized post is waaay down. That's why shipping things from Asia using eBay can be considerably cheaper and quite reliable. So, where ecommerce may not doing great in RSA, its picking up quite well here!P.s. I used to work in warehluse logistics. Star Track was a customer of ours. So was Big W and many of the big delivery companies like DHL. Tiermelk
These are also two very good services from Auspost for people doing online shopping and that`s not home for delivery (Only for Auspost deliveries though). Even though some people say its save to let them leave the parcel at your door I`ve heard of lots of people having problems with that. Guess it really depends on your postie and the street you live in.http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/parcel-lockers.htmlhttp://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/parcel-collect.html
qwerty
I always search for coupons first before buying online (either for free delivery, 10 - 20% discounts or $5 - $10 vouchers).
