Money. I've Read It All, What Are Your Experiences? Which To Use?

Hi all

I've read a lot of your thoughts and who you use for money transfers from an SA Bank Account to an Australian one.

Who would you recommend?

I tried calling exchange4free but most unhelpful and no real interest in helping or answering my questions. No personal service imo.

If you are looking for someone who would take the time to pick up the phone and call you to get a better understanding of your exact situation, you are welcome to call me. Rand Rescue could assist with your fund transfers from SA to Australia.

Email me your details and convenient time to call and i will be in touch.

We can highly recommend Tanya from Fx Capital, she has done multiple transfers for us after hosting a CPT coffee club gathering and introducing us to their services and gave us one on one assistance.

Cheers

Tanya and Anita are both ex Exchange4Free and this is not the first time I sesnse that good client service walked out the door and followed Tanya and Anita! I have used Fx Capital's Tim Powell for 11 years and they are indeed the market leader ... Www.forexcapital.co.za

Tanya was at Exchange4free for years and moved over to FX Capital last year. She is truly amazing and we have used them multiple times (RSA-Aus and UK-Aus). I intended to "follow" her with my business, but was too lazy to set up my details with FX, so used Excange4free again about 8 weeks ago without a hitch or any complaints. I would say that they are both good and definitely legit ( if you are a first timer and stressed about the process).

Can strongly recommend Tanya from FXCapital.

Always willing to help or to point you to someone that can help! Trying to do complex financial transfers from Australia is always messy and you often need someone in South Africa that can do some footwork with a willingness to assist.

Yes I'm biased because a messy transaction from this side without assistance is very frustrating.

Thus even if you still in South Africa and your needs aren't straight forward then go and knock on her door!

No I don't get paid to say this just a happy customer!

We deal with Tanya and she is great. Maybe also take note of the following. If you have the need to transfer money into South Africa for whatever reason and provided it is worth it obviously you can set up an account through Tanya. ( acc will be at Investec) .

Once the funds are in the Investec account its easy to set up beneficiaries. Tanya will give instruction based on your directive and Investec will transfer funds to your beneficiaries. The account at Investec is an FX account in your name and all funds sent into the country can be repatriated and will not be affecting your annual allowances. There is automatic record keeping of the funds coming in and the chances are very small that the Reserve Bank will annoy you with a host of questions etc when you decide to repatriate the funds again.

For transferring funds to Australia from your international bank accounts we use Ozforex and once you are set up in their online system ( there are some document requirements and their compliance department evaluates each application and ask for additional information if required) its very easy to do transactions. If anyone is interested in more detail just send me an message and i will help where i can.

Lastly not many people are aware but from 2011/12 the Australian Government reduced their guarantee on bank deposits from about AUD 1 mil to AUD 250,000 per account holder per bank/institution. Obviously the big 4 banks are covered but maybe just make sure if you are banking with an smaller bank. If you have an significant amount of cash it might be an option to open a few accounts and deposit up to AUD 250,000 in each. ( all funds over $250,000 is at risk and not covered at all) The large banks are fairly safe according to my opinion but the world economy is very volatile, resources are struggling , etc Who would have thought in 2013 with USD:AUD @ 1:1 the AUD would depreciate with 40% in 2 years?

There must be a reason why the Australian Government reduced their exposure to AUD 250,000 and last i heard the Government also supported "in sourcing" . In sourcing is basically what happened in Cyprus where the bank used its deposit holders money to fund the bail out as apposed to the Government providing the funds. Seems very unfair but thats reality. I have not read up recently if the concept was officially approved in Australia. Lastly there is an proposal that deposits in the big 4 banks are taxed @0,05% up to AUD 250,000 and the funds generated going into an bail out fund. This tax will be paid by the bank not the customer but the problem is it will take about 20 years to accumulate enough money for a modest bank bailout. Decision regarding this tax will possibly be made around Jan 2016.

I am in no way an expert and if you are interested in more detail its probably best to do your own research. Apologies for the long post.

Thanks all but in terms of the transfer I decided to go with my bank. They gave me a great exchange rate and their charges are capped at R780 (so they have a minimum percentage but if it's over a certain amount you pay a maximum of R780).

So yes I paid R780 but I got a great rate, no excessive paperwork and my Australian Bank informed me that the transaction was a success.

Simple, signed 2 forms and painless.
